DAY 1: ARRIVE IN HANOI Land in Hanoi and transfer to your hotel for check-in. The rest of today is yours to explore Vietnam’s capital city. Filled with French colonial architecture and Chinese cultural influences; stroll towards the Hoan Kiem district to visit market stalls, restaurants and the beautiful Hoan Kiem Lake. The city also features many temples, pagodas, museums, and ‘tube houses’ - which are very long and narrow buildings famously associated with Hanoi. Stay overnight. DAY 2: HA LONG BAY CRUISE Take a scenic drive to the UNESCO World Heritage site of Ha Long Bay, where you board a traditional junk boat and cruise past thousands of limestone pillars, caves and arches. Later, you can take a swim in one of the bay’s sheltered coves and enjoy lunch, before taking a rowing boat to ‘Dark and Bright Lagoon’. This evening, watch a Vietnamese cooking demonstration and have a tasty seafood dinner on the sundeck. Overnight stay on board. DAY 3: HA LONG BAY This morning choose from a Tai chi class or a traditional massage before exploring one of Ha Long Bay’s grottos and sailing back to port. Arrive in Hanoi this afternoon and spend an hour exploring its beautiful historic quarter on a rickshaw. Sample tropical fruits and noodle dishes from a street stall, then board the Reunification Express train for your journey to Hue. Overnight on sleeper train. DAY 4: HUE Arrive in Hue and start your sightseeing tour. Visit Thien Mu Pagoda - home to a 21m tower and one of the country’s oldest monasteries - and see Imperial City which features moats, palaces and ramparts similar to Beijing’s Forbidden City. Afterwards, head to the countryside to find royal tombs and the mausoleums of emperors Tu Duc and Khai Dinh. You can then take a sunset cruise along Perfume River before your overnight stay in Hue. DAY 5: HOI AN Today, travel along ‘Road of the Ocean Clouds’, passing hills and beaches, and stop at My Khe Beach which features in the film ‘Apocalypse Now’. Enjoy a swim in the sea before carrying on south to Hoi An - known for its canals and preserved historic district. Once you arrive in Hoi An and check in at your hotel; join your walking tour to visit Chua Ong Pagoda, Chinese Assembly Hall, Japanese Bridge, and the 200-year-old Tam Ky House. Overnight in Hoi An.
DAY 6: TRA QUE VILLAGE Today, enjoy a bike ride through the rural landscape to the village of Tra Que. Discover old-fashioned farming ways and learn about traditional medicine during your visit - which also includes tending the fields and cooking an authentic Vietnamese lunch! Overnight in Hoi An. DAY 7: HOI AN Enjoy breakfast before a free day in Hoi An. There are plenty of ways to explore Hoi An; take a rowing boat along the river or unwind at one of the city’s tropical beaches. You can even book an excursion to Son My - the site of a significant massacre of the Vietnam War. Take a tour of the village to learn more, before returning to Hoi An. DAY 8: MEKONG DELTA CRUISE Early this morning, fly to Ho Chi Minh City and drive to the Mekong Delta - famous for its rice, fruit and flower harvests. Board a sampan boat at Vinh Long and view the bustle of everyday life as you cruise the maze of waterways. Stop at paper and rice popcorn factories and enjoy lunch at a traditional wooden home on Dong Hoa Hiep Island before your overnight stay in Can Tho. DAY 9: HO CHI MINH CITY Visit Cai Rang Floating Market where you can see traders throwing toys, melons, pineapples, and sacks of rice from one boat to the next before driving back to Ho Chi Minh City, commonly called Saigon. A city of extremes, you can a look around bars, spas, malls, skyscrapers, food stalls, and restaurants; then find ancient pagodas, colonial architecture, traditional street markets, and landmarks including Notre Dame Cathedral, Independence Palace and War Remnants Museum. Overnight in Ho Chi Minh City. DAY 10: DEPART FROM HO CHI MINH CITY This morning, enjoy a foot massage and shop for gifts at Ben Thanh Market before transferring to the airport for your flight home.
