DAY 1: ARRIVE IN BEIJING Land in Beijing where a local guide greets you and assists you with your hotel transfer. Check-in before heading out to explore capital-city Beijing, home to several UNESCO World Heritage sites. Enjoy a welcome dinner at a local restaurant before your first overnight stay. DAY 2: BEIJING Spend this morning at one of the world’s largest public plazas, Tiananmen Square, before visiting Forbidden City - an imperial palace complex and the centre of national power for 500 years. Take a rickshaw ride, visit a local family, tour Temple of Heaven, and shop at Wangfujing’s night-time food market. DAY 3: BEIJING Today, head to the Mutianyu section of the iconic Great Wall, where you get a chairlift up and a toboggan ride down! In the afternoon, visit the imperial gardens of Summer Palace and take a tour of Beijing Olympic Park to see the famous Bird’s Nest and Water Cube buildings. Overnight in Beijing. DAY 4: XI’AN Take a high-speed train south-west to Xi’an for your afternoon touring the old city walls - built in the 1300s during the Ming dynasty. In the evening, stroll along Muslim Street, which features a variety of ancient buildings, mosques, restaurants, and food stalls selling fruits, cakes, breads, and skewered meats. Stay overnight in Xi’an. DAY 5: XI’AN AND FLIGHT TO CHENGDU Head to Big Wild Goose Pagoda, completed during the Tang dynasty in 652, before visiting Shaanxi History Museum which houses exhibits and relics dating from prehistoric times. In the afternoon, you take a tour of the Terracotta Warriors Museum where you see clay soldiers, horses and chariots in battle formation. Created in approximately 250BC, it is one of the world’s most important archaeological discoveries. This evening take a flight to Chengdu. DAY 6: CHENGDU TO EMEISHAN This morning, get close to China’s most famous animal at Chengdu Research Base of Giant Panda Breeding, before an afternoon transfer to Leshan. Here, take a boat cruise to see the Giant Buddha - a 71m stone statue - before dinner and an overnight stay in Emeishan.
DAY 7: EMEISHAN TO CHENGDU Today, you visit Mount Emei, which is a sacred Buddhist location. Take a cable car up the mountain to reach Wannian Temple - featuring a decorative Buddha statue sitting on a white elephant and surrounded by troops of monkeys. Transfer to Chengdu and enjoy the teahouses, wine bars and street performances of century-old Jin Street before your overnight stay in Chengdu. DAY 8: CHONGQING AND YANGTZE RIVER Take the high-speed train to Chongqing this morning where you spend half the day touring the city’s landmarks - including Eling Park and the ancient town of Ciqikou. Board your cruise ship in late afternoon for a three- night cruise along Yangtze River. DAY 9-10: YANGTZE RIVER The Yangtze River - a crucial part of China’s culture and economy - is Asia’s longest river and the longest to flow entirely in one country in the world. Enjoy a relaxing journey and enjoy the changing landscape as you sail. This cruise has all meals included. DAY 11: YICHANG TO SHANGHAI Disembark your cruise ship at Yichang - an ancient city and now a major transport centre between east and west China - and transfer to the airport for your flight to Shanghai. Home to an exciting arts scene and the second-tallest tower in the world, Shanghai is a modern metropolis with many international shops and restaurants. Transfer to your hotel when you land in the evening. DAY 12: SHANGHAI This morning, visit Yùyuán Garden in the old town district, enjoy a traditional Chinese tea ceremony, and explore Shanghai Museum - which features jade, ceramic, calligraphy, and Chinese coin galleries. Take an afternoon tour of The Bund - a famous waterfront area - and shopping street, Nanjing Road, before enjoying an authentic Chinese dinner and the city’s lively night scene. Spend your final night in Shanghai. DAY 13: DEPART FROM SHANGHAI See Jìng’ān Temple or visit the city’s modern French Concession district for shopping, dining and entertainment before transferring to the airport for your flight to the UK.
