Regional Training Forum (RTF) Recap Minneapolis RTF | MFHA Roundtable | June 16-17, 2025

More than a dozen CHART attendees joined the Multicultural Foodservice & Hospitality Alliance (MFHA) Roundtable, hosted by Ecolab, for a robust discussion on “Developing Future-Ready Leaders.”

PresidenTalks Booked for Life: Leadership Lessons and Riveting Reads I love books. I’m constantly reading them, referencing them, heck, even smelling the pages. (I may have just lost some of you, but there are those that know what I’m talking about.) At the CHART 108 Conference in Redondo Beach, Keynote David Horsager shared a thought about books that has stuck with me since he said it. While I couldn’t verify the exact stat he shared – that the average adult reads just one book after finishing school – it sparked a deeper look. What I did find was just as sobering: Nearly 50% of Americans haven’t read a single book in the last year. (Source: https://testprepinsight.com/resources/us-book-reading-statistics/) Reading helps us gain perspective, practice empathy, and even reduce stress. It’s a workout for your brain, helping to improve memory and increase our critical thinking skills. I love reading for the same reason others love travel – it’s a journey to another world, another time, or another person’s shoes. I read books on a develop/reward cycle. For every leadership book I read, I try to reward myself with a “fun” one, usually in the form of Science Fiction.

CHART President Kelly McCutcheon

✅ Make the Right Choice , Joel Zeff – fun, funny, actionable ✅ Exiles , Jane Harper – my first crime fiction and it won’t be my last ✅ The Let Them Theory , Mel Robbins – life changing & tattoo worthy ✅ The Apprentice , Jacques Pepin – as endearing as the chef himself ✅ Water Moon , Samantha Sotto – a magical adventure ✅ The Ministry of Time , Kaliane Bradley – a speculative sci-romance ✅ Mickey 7 , Edward Ashton – The book is a “yes,” the movie is a “no” ✅ Project Hail Mary , Andy Weir – Sci fi perfection ✨ ✅ Lessons from the Drive Thru , Monica Rothgery – Changes how you think about Front Line Leadership… and your own! ✅ Mind of My Mind , Octavia Butler – A 70’s classic that’s still fresh Unreasonable Hospitality , Will Guidara – book clubbing now Designing Momentum , Brant Menswar – leverage life’s moments You Got This , Dr. Ivan Joseph – skyrocket your self confidence Lessons From a Third Grade Dropout , Rick Rigsby – if I ever wrote a book, it would probably be about my dad, too Every Team Needs Coaching , Jason E Brooks – Launches in September, already pre ordered! Bonus! Dr. Brooks is donating 50% of the proceeds from this launch to our scholarship program. So, to get to know a little more about me, here are the books on my must-read list this year. (Checks by the ones I’ve finished so far.)

So, I’d love to hear from you. What are you reading and what book would you recommend I tackle next? Scan the QR code to get in touch! PS: When you read, do you see the words in your head or are you like me, and see pictures?

We were so very sad to hear of the passing of our dear CHART friend and Lifetime Member Harry Bond. During his time on our Board of Directors, Harry was instrumental in expanding the “sharing” aspect of our guiding principles by helping launch the first Resource Gallery Vendor Expo and MINDS (Members in Need of Dynamic Sharing) Center at our conferences. In 2003, he was honored with CHART’s Commitment to People award. His leadership and legacy lives on.
