GAZE ON TOUR Wednesday 27th July @ 8pm Crane Lane Theatre
Post-pandemic creativity and community has had the chance to flourish again, and this is most definitely reflected in the strong submissions we’ve had for this year’s Irish shorts category at GAZE. This small selection of terrific films offers a representative journey through that work, from the power of the imagination, to the importance of our history, via the grim reality of discriminatory violence, to resilience, self-esteem, survival and humour. Our feature offering, Firebird, was a popular hit at GAZE 2021 and is sure to set hearts racing for Cork Pride. I look forward to welcoming the Cork audiences in person to enjoy these
cinematic gems together. GREG THORPE Festival Director
FIREBIRD

UK/Estonia 2021 Director. Peeter Rebane 1_h_ _47m
A hit at GAZE 2021, Firebird tells the passionate true story of same-sex love in the Soviet Air Force. Cold War pilots Sergey and Roman begin a dangerous clandestine affair, sparked during a performance of Stravinsky’s ballet. With the imminent threat of war, it isn’t just the law that tries to keep Sergey and Roman apart. Romantic melodrama and lavish sets are anchored by great performances resulting in a gripping work of romantic cinema. Co-created by lead actor Tom Prior in the role of Sergey, Firebird’s passion is not only between its central characters, but evident in Prior and director Peter Rebane’s desire to bring this important story to the screen.
