With Pride
For some of us, our pets play a huge part in our lives and are often considered members of our family. Pets give us unconditional love and never judge us. We asked Brendan Courtney to tell us about his. BRENDAN COURTNEY Me and My Girl
What kind of pet do you have?
What personality traits do you and your pet have in common? I think your pet learns some of your personality traits;
Does your pet sleep in your bed or bedroom? When Adam is not working away from home, Nancy Drew waits for him to go to bed. She sleeps in the bed with us, between Adam’s legs (under the duvet) with her head resting on his knee. When Adam is away from home Nancy sleeps in her own double bedroom. What has owning a pet taught you about yourself? I can’t imagine life without Nancy Drew now, she has taught me so much. Life is so different now that she is in our lives, she has made me realise that love is a wonderous thing. When you have a pet, you feel you just want to protect them as they are so vulnerable. She is my priority now and I feel so guilty when I have to leave her. How has your life changed since your pet came into your life? Nancy Drew has simplified my life, and made me a healthier person. Have you formed new friendships or joined any groups because of your pet? Yes, my friend Caroline now has her own Doggie Day Care in Dun Laoghaire because of Nancy Drew. Before she set up her own business she used to mind Nancy Drew and she continues to mind her to this day. What is the most rewarding thing about being a pet owner? Getting unconditional love and always being excited to see me. When I haven’t seen her for any period of time she rolls over and cries.
A cross between a Jack Russell and a Pug on one side and Jack Russell and Chihuahua on the other. When and how did your pet come into your life? loves running
can be a bit cranky in the morning can have a short temper sometimes charming, and can work a room if she doesn’t like you she will let you know What traits does your pet have that you wish you had? She is happy most of the time. She lives in the present moment, mindfulness is all about being in the present and Nancy Drew influences me to meditate. What is your pet’s typical daily routine? She’s a bit lazy in the mornings and likes to have a lie in, so whenever she is ready for the day we go for a run and have breakfast afterwards. Of course, an afternoon rest is needed after all that activity. When Adam (my partner) comes home in the afternoon, she has her lunch with him. In the evening she goes for a walk and then likes to play with me and Adam in the house before bed. What is a bad habit that your pet has? Dragging her bum on the carpet! What is the funniest memory involving your pet? Me lying in bed and seeing Nancy Drew passing the bedroom door while she is dragging her bum on the floor.
