Script writing, acting and all things theatre What has your group been up to this year?

The success of this club is down to all the players that come to enjoy the games, chat and laughter week after week and of course our fabulous committee. I would like to say thank you to all the past and present members of Racket Rebels since it all began back in 2005, you have made this club what it is! I have met so many wonderful women over the years and very much look forward to meeting more of you on court! Happy Pride NICKY

I joined Linc Drama 8 years ago and it was also the first time I set foot inside Linc. I remember being nervous, not sure what to expect. I had never done drama before and I thought my first night there would also be my last. But, when I walked in the door I was met with kind, supportive and uplifting women and I immediately felt like I belonged there. Fast forward 8 years and I still get that feeling when I walk in the door every Tuesday evening. I look forward to it every week as it is a place where I can be truly myself and there is no judgement. In fact, I am embraced for it. Linc Drama has helped boost my confidence, self belief and pushed me out of my comfort zone. From being someone who had no creativity (or at least thought I didn’t), I have now performed in several Linc Drama plays, brainstormed ideas and helped with writing scripts. The people in Linc Drama are like a family and walking in that door 8 years ago is one of the best decisions I have made.” AOIFE

As part of Cork Pride Festival last year we held an outdoor, digital theatre experience called Queer Code where QR Codes linked users to pre-recorded performances in Fitzgerald’s park using their phones. This allowed the community to experience queer performances and content safely. We have also recently performed at the Sunday event of Cork Women’s Weekend and are currently deep in the creative process, writing the script for another LINC Drama original. We are all delighted to be back working together in person and thrilled to be on stage again soon. Anything exciting coming up? Dates for our next play to be announced soon LINC Drama became a home away from home where I can escape for two hours every Tuesday for many years now. In my first year it was one of the constant places I could go to feel safe while my Dad was sick and dying. I have gained so much from being part of LINC Drama and I never imagined I would get over the horrible experience of stage fright when I was a child on a summer scheme. I have been able to cross off some of my bucket list like performing on stage and making people LOL. I have had experiences that were beyond my wildest dreams such as being on stage with both my beautiful transgender daughters. I’m so grateful to have this space where I can continue to write, laugh, joke, chat and be part of this wonderful ‘tribe’ within our community.”

When gaps open in your life where you can do something different and meet new people is important to lean and seize those opportunities. I’m so pleased that for me this was joining what is now known as Racket Rebels. Little did I know that joining this club would not only allow me to meet and forge very special friendships but also set me on an adventure where we felt ’nothing was impossible’ and which led to us competing in the Gay Games in Paris in 2019. The adventure is still very much alive and Im so looking forward to see where its going to take us next.” JOOLES

My name is Elena and can truthfully say that Tuesday night badminton is my highlight of the week! We are competitive on the court but also are aware of new members who may only be new at the sport. I find the interaction healthy not only physically but also mentally. Making new friends and feeling part of a wonderful Lesbian group! Love it!’ ‘I want to say just a big thanks to the group, it was kind of the first group activity I joined in Cork and I love the friendliness and support that has provided me with. Its a great community indeed, not to mention how girls can smash it in the court!” ADELITA
