3. When a whole team does this together and shares the results, it normalises conversations about what we’re good at and builds confidence collectively. Try it! I’ve recorded a breezy 5-minute explainer video to walk through some important aspects and nuances of the process: https://ow.ly/MlPX50Ytj0n. Unleashing your team I recently ran this activity for 150 people at a company offsite. Many people coming into the session felt undervalued and unseen. It changed the energy, and one of the organisers shared this: “We had outstanding feedback from our people. In fact, watching two of my Managers, who’ve been warring for the past six months, actively engage during the ‘What’s your superpower?’ session made my heart swell.” One person realised her strength was bringing calm to chaos. Another discovered he was the translator who made complex

rules make sense. Someone else found that humour under pressure was their quiet gift for keeping everyone grounded when deadlines hit. It was the start of consciously having better conversations and building those strengths into their working practices. Several months on, I hear there’s less stress, fewer errors, more laughter. Imagine the impact if your payroll team did this. When your team recognises their unique value, what impact could that have on confidence and teamwork? As humans, when we feel seen, heard and understood, engagement and trust all go up. The ripple effect at home It’s exactly the same outside of work. When I first tried the ‘Superpowers Activity’ with my wife and our kids, my friends laughed at me. The results told the real story. It had a meaningful impact on how we interacted by better appreciating each other. When you change the conversation at home, you change it everywhere. My challenge to you Run the activity for yourself and enjoy what comes up for you. You might be surprised

by what you hear. You might even start to see yourself differently. Then try it with your teams. At home and at work. Payroll is about people. It’s about trust. It’s about culture. It’s about playing your part in shaping the culture as a team. No matter how senior or junior, how you show up matters and casts a shadow. Focus on doubling down on your superpower and see what difference that makes to how you feel and the impact you can have on those around you. 5 top tips for building confidence and flipping the payroll script 1. Ask the question. Don’t guess. Ask people you trust what your superpower is. 2. Name it and own it. When you name your superpower, it’s yours to own. 3. Celebrate other people’s superpowers and appreciate their unique brilliance. 4. Celebrate what’s right. Build rituals like team shout-outs, micro-wins or prizes to spotlight the good. 5. Take it home. Enjoy exploring this and becoming more comfortable knowing the value you bring.
