endeavour. This mismatch is of no interest to the media, politicians (who want to be re-elected) or environmentalists. Riding the wave of their anger is dangerous, because a reaction guided by anger leads nowhere. Jean-Emmanuel Hay: It is indeed difficult to find good communication on subjects such as decarbonisation or the extraordinary performance of new aircraft. Sandrine de Saint Sauveur: We sometimes get the impression that slight progress is being made in this area, but communication remains average overall. This is regrettable, because the technological advances are impressive. In France, the organisations that could speak out on the subject do not speak with one voice. They sometimes publish joint press releases, but these end up with so many logos that they become unreadable. A lobbyist rightly pointed out to me that the air transport industry refuses to invest in communication to the same extent as other industries, such as the sugar industry, have done to improve their image. The comparison is certainly not ideal: unlike sugar, aeroplanes are neither a drug nor harmful. A global communication plan could exist, but the players in the air transport industry are not

devoting the necessary resources to it. Each one seeks to protect itself, because air travel is also a symbol of power: no one wants to give anything away, when they should be coming together to defend and promote certain common points. Jean-Emmanuel Hay : This year, World Connect by APG is taking place in Seville. What motivated you to choose this city? Sandrine de Saint Sauveur: I appreciate partners who sincerely want to host our event. This was the case with the Seville City Council, which wants to attract international conferences to the region. As APG Spain already had contacts with them, things fell into place naturally. We always look for easily accessible cities to host World Connect. Europe is well suited to this and ensures a high quality of service. Seville ticks many boxes, as did Malta, where we were last year, and Monaco, which is a regular host for World Connect by APG. We like friendly events, partly organised outdoors, because it creates a more pleasant atmosphere. So we’re not planning to organise World Connect in Greenland. Seville is in Spain, but it’s also the gateway to Latin America, a particularly dynamic region. That’s why we chose Seville this year.
