Jean-Emmanuel Hay: Mr. Mayor, Seville is hosting this year’s the World Connect by APG, which brings together aviation professionals from all over the world. What makes Seville attractive for international events and what are the strengths of your city in terms of hospitality? José Luis Sanz: In addition to being a well-connected city, with an airport that continues to break passenger records year after year, Seville is, for many reasons, one of the most attractive European cities for hosting major international events. We are a historic city of undeniable beauty with unique heritage, including two of the five most visited monuments in Spain: the Alcázar and the Cathedral. We have unique infrastructure with an excellent Conference Center, large multipurpose spaces, hotels, restaurants, and a wide cultural and leisure offering. We have experience in hosting large national and international events, and we are destined to become the great
technological capital of southern Europe and the technological engine of Andalusia. Jean-Emmaunuel Hay: Do you remember the first time you flew? What memories do you have of that moment? José Luis Sanz: I was very young. Flying has always been a dream for everyone, and for me too. I remember that first flight with the excitement of someone about to experience a unique moment longed for since childhood. Jean-Emmanuel Hay: What is your most cherished memory related to air travel? And the least pleasant one? José Luis Sanz: I would say many, because flying takes you to a new destination you want to discover. But something you never forget is the first time you fly. The least pleasant was on my honeymoon, returning from New York, when the plane suddenly dropped 100
meters during turbulence.
Jean-Emmanuel Hay: It will not be easy to sum it up in a few words, but what are the most outstanding aspects of life in Seville that you would not change for anything in the world? José Luis Sanz: There are many. Seville is a unique city that invites you to walk. Walking through its streets is like traveling through the history of humanity via its history and cultural legacy. Seville has the largest historic center in Spain, which encapsulates the history of the West and of our country. But I must mention three fundamental things: our cultural and leisure offerings, our gastronomy (eating and enjoying tapas in Seville means experiencing one of the best cuisines in the world) and, of course, its people. Seville is as it is, the best city in the world to live in, thanks to the Sevillians.
