lighted step. What about that soul to' whom we know Christ would have us speak—are we doing all we can to reach that one? It is progression by faith that glorifies God. III. THE TIME TO SAY “NO” TO A KNOWN SIN IS WHEN WE REALIZE THAT: 1. Christ has promised to free us from the prison of sin (Lk. 4:18). 1 2. All of our sins have been “blotted out” at the cross. There is no need to be discouraged over past failures. If we need cleansing and forgiveness, let us go back to the cross, confess our particular sin, and start out anew for given and accepted in the Beloved (Col. 2:13, 14; 1 John 1:9; Phil, g 3:13, 14). 3. The only source of power for vic tory over that sin Is the indwelling Holy Spirit who is oUr constant Com panion and who is greater than any inward or outward enemy (Rom. 7:18; 8s11, 12; 1 John 4:4; 1 Thess. 5:23, 24; 1 Cor. 10:13; 2 Thess. 3:3). 4. That we are God’s—body, soul, and mind. As we live in the power of the Holy Spirit, yielded to God, we shall be so. busy serving Christ that what we do for Christ will crowd out the occasions for “dont’s” (Rom. 6:13; Gal. 5:16, 22, 23; 1 Cor. 6:19, 20). 5. That we have a personal respon sibility to fulfill: a. To avoid ariy circumstance that would or might cause us to commit that particular sin (Prov. 4:14, 15). b. To call upon the Holy Spirit for help and strength to overcome that sin immediately upon any start of temptation (Heb. 4:15, 16). c. To resist the devil, the flesh, and the world; “resist beginnings * (Jas. 4:7, 8; 1 John 2:15; Rom. 6:12,13). d. To keep every thought in cap tivity “to the obedience of Christ” (2 Cor. 10:5; Isa. 26:3, 4) . IV. THE TIME TO SAY “NO” TO A SIN THAT MAY INFLUENCE AN OTHER: 1. When our speech will hurt some one (Jas. 3:2, 6; Col. 3:17; 1 Pet. 2:21-23). 2. When we áre about to keep silent for Christ in order to comprpmise with the world (Acts 4:17-20), 3. When our feet are about to lead some one astray (Prov. 4:25, 26; Rom. 14:13; 1 Cor. 8:9, 13). ' For the Leader Have Various ones read the refer ences after the statement is read. It helps to have these references written on slips of paper ready to be passed around the group. Question some of these statements; arouse voluntary discussion; challenge the group to think. Some may have Scripture refer ences to add. It often proves a bless ing to ask for true illustrations. Guard against public confessions of sins.

I. THE TIME TO SAY “NO” TO SELF IS WHEN WE SAY “YES” TO GOD (¿5lk. 1:16-20; 2:14; Acts 9:3-6; Phil. 3:17; Matt, 12:30). Facts are facts, whether they be of the physical or of the spiritual realm; they never change, and can be ac cepted only by personal faith. Why then are we so reticent to decide for Christ and the facts of God’s revela tion? There can be no half-way deci sion. It is the willingness to say once and for all “yes to God” and “no to self,” as fully as we know how, that keeps us steadfast to. Christ and gives God an opportunity to make us ac cording to His pattern. Happy day it is when we can definitely say: “ ’Tis dope, the great transaction’s done; I am my Lord’s and He is mine.” II. THE TIME TO SAY “NO” IS WHEN WE ARE' TEMPTED TO REFUSE TO PROGRESS IN THE LIGHT WHICH WE ALREADY HAVE (Acts 16:9, 10; Psa. 119:105; Prov. 4:18 Ex. 14:13-15). The Apostle Paul by faith acted upon the light he had for the next step. He didn’t stop to pray for more light. Moses, on the other hand, whs found praying when he should have been going forward by faith. “And the Lord said unto Moses, Wherefore criest thou unto me? . . . go forward.” When God has already given us direction to do something, let us not bother Him for more light until we take that
