taste! yea,"sweeter ;than honey to my mouth!” (Psa. 119:103). Boldly and humbly study the Scrip tures. God dwelling in us is the key to them; they are a sealed book as long as you do not realize .this truth. . . . I have had many enjoyable things after the world’s estimation, but there, is nothing in any way to be compared to the study of God’s Word. I hope you will more and more chew the cud of the Scriptures; they afford inward nourishment Which few enjoy. I would say, read them much, but chew them more. —General Gordon. Seek Him “As it began to dawn . . . , came Mary Magdalene . . . to see the sepulchre” (Matt. 28:1). Mary Magdalene sought the Saviour very early in the morning- ., • . The heart that is fitted for communion with Christ is a hungering and thirst ing heart. She sought Him also with great, boldness. Other disciples fled from the sepulcher, for they trembled and were amazed; but Mary, it is said, “stood” at the sepulcher. If you would have Christ with you, seek Him boldly. Let nothing hold you 23.

tree. . . . -We have a great High Priest who is touched with the feeling of our infirmities. He knew ali about glad ness and gloom alternating in the human life.—Herbert Lockyer. 18. Carnal Versus Spiritual , “For they that are after the flesh do mind the things of the flesh; but they that are after the Spirit the things of the Spirit” (Rom. 8:5). The “càrnal” Christian has a Sav iour but not a Lord; but the “spirit ual” Christian has both a Saviour and a Lord. The “carnal” Christian: has stuck between Passover and Pente cost; he is on the right side of the cross, but he is on the wrong side of the Throne. He has life, but not lib erty. He is out of Egypt, but not in Canaan.—W. Graham Scroggie. 19. Ablaze with God “Who maketh' his angels spirits, and his ministers a flame of fire” (Heb. 1:7). - I saw a human life ablaze with God— I felt a power divine As through an, empty vessel of frail clay , I saw God’s glory shine. Then woke I from a dream, and cried aloud“: “My Father give to me The blessing of a life consumed by God, That I may live for Thee.” —Selected. 20. The Same Need for All “For all have sinned,* and come short of the glory of God” (Rom. 3:23). On the same page of the New Testa ment we have the record of two re markable conversion^: Lydia, on a quiet river bank, finds Christ through the gentle opening of her heart by the Spirit. The jailer, in the midst of the commotions of-an earthquake, is born again. Whether cultured lady or rough turnkey, the need for Christ is the same.—Keith L. Brooks. '21. Pressed Out of Measure—But God “We were pressed out of measure, above strength, insomuch that we de spaired even of life. But we had the sentence of death, in ourselves, that we should not trust in ourselves, but ir> God which raiseth the dead” (2 Cor. 1:8, 9). It does noli matter how great the pressure is; it only matters where the pressure lies; whether it comes be tween you and the Lord, or whether it only presses you more closely to His breast.—J. Hudson Taylor. 22. Chew the Cud of Scripture “How sweet are thy words unto my
