Bid Day Recaps This past fall, our collegiate chapters across North America welcomed a fresh wave of members into our ever-growing sisterhood. These members tore open their Bid Day cards, laughter and happy tears mixing as they sprinted toward their home away from home. From hugs to high-fives to roaring cheers, these special days were full of energy, excitement and memories that will last a lifetime. Here’s a glimpse of how a few of our chapters celebrated.

Kappa Eta-Florida “Signed, Sealed, Delivered to the 505” set the tone for Kappa Eta Chapter’s Bid Day at the University of Florida — a nod to the classic Stevie Wonder song and the chapter house’s street address. Love letters took center stage, with pink, red and white decorations highlighting the theme. Vice President of Membership Recruitment Kate Kenny says, “My favorite decorations were a wooden box painted to look like love letters, which members could sit in to snap photos, and the empty notecards on the table for members to write little love letters to someone who made the day special for them. We’re planning to pass those letters back out at Initiation as a fun surprise.” On Bid Day, 83 new members joined Kappa Eta. Kate adds, “Watching new members hug each other, laugh and shed happy tears reminded me why we put so much time and energy into this day — it’s truly special for everyone involved.” But the new member class of 2025 isn’t having all the fun. Kate is excited to watch the class of 2024 take on the role of Big Sister, many of whom are already making an impact. “Being a recruiter for the first time can be a little nerve-racking, but they truly did such an amazing job, and it’s so much fun to see them get close with the new members they personally recruited.”

Kappa Mu-Arkansas This year has been an exciting one for our sisters at Kappa Mu Chapter at the University of Arkansas. Not only was this past recruitment season their second largest yet, but it was also the chapter’s very first primary recruitment season. Sisters proudly welcomed 203 new members on Bid Day, a day full of high spirits. Chapter President Mackenzie Blackson shares, “My favorite part of Bid Day was seeing the chapter come together, celebrating side by side. It truly showed how strong our sisterhood is and how excited we were to welcome more women into it.” Such an important day for new members involves a lot of moving parts. While Mackenzie and her fellow executive council members worked hard to ensure everything ran smoothly, they also reminded themselves to stay present and soak up every moment. “It’s easy to get caught up in the operations side of Bid Day, but stepping back to be in the now made me, personally, appreciate how special the day really is.” Now that the dust has settled, Mackenzie is looking forward to getting to know and learning from the chapter’s newest sisters. “I’m so excited to welcome them into our chapter, get to know them, watch them build meaningful relationships and find their place here in Alpha Phi.”
