When was your first Convention, and what do you remember most?

“My first Convention was at Pheasant Run near Chicago in 1982. I most specifically recall Mary Carr Boyd (Omicron-Missouri) being so dignified and presiding with poise and grace. She was a wonderful role model.” —Deana Koonsman Gage (Gamma Iota-Texas Tech) International Governor, Kappa Theta- Baylor

“My first Convention was in 1952, at the Cavalier in Virginia Beach, Virginia, before my senior year at Beta Nu-Duke. I must admit that I recall very little of Convention business, but I do remember that it was hot! I also remember walking with my sisters barefoot on the beach at least one night while little sand crabs nipped at our toes. Each District put on a skit, and somehow it fell to me to be in charge of District 2's production. This was not in my skill set, but it was fun getting to know others in the district. There were very few of us since Alpha Phi's wonderful southern expansion had yet taken place.” —Martha Mast (Beta Nu-Duke) International Executive Board member, 1970-1976

“My first Convention was in 1986. It inspired me to become the best Alpha Phi volunteer I could possibly be. Forty years later, I am still inspired.”
