Purpose-built Rental Highlights In the first nine months of 2025, 20,112 purpose-built rental units 5 were registered in B.C. Compared with the same period in 2024, the number of registered rental units increased 60.2%. So far in 2025, rental units 5 represented 58.9% of all multi-unit registrations. This month 1,728 rental units were registered 12 . Compared with September 2024, the number of rental units registered increased 106.5%. Using a 12-month moving average 4 , there were 2,169 rental units registered 5 in September, trending at a 3.5% increase from August. Using a 36-month moving average 4 , there were 1,672 rental units registered 5 in September, which is a 1.1% increase from August. There were 29 rental buildings registered 5 in September. Most of these were buildings of 5 to 50 units (27.6%) and quadplex (24.1%). The largest building of 265 units was proposed to be built in Surrey. In September, Kelowna (373), Surrey (330) and Nanaimo (264) had the largest number of rental units registered 5 in B.C.
