Dr. Becky Lutte is an associate professor and chair of the Aeronautics Department. She holds a Bachelor of Science in Professional Aeronautics from Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University, a Master of Public Administration with an Aviation minor and a Ph.D. in Public Administration with a specialization in Aviation Policy from the University of Nebraska at Omaha. Dr. Lutte has various certifications, such as commercial pilot, single-engine land (SEL) and multi-engine land (MEL) ratings, an instrument rating and both Certified Flight Instructor Instrument (CFII) and Multi-Engine Instructor Instrument (MEI) endorsements. As a qualified pilot and owner of two experimental aircraft (RV-7 and RV-10), Dr. Lutte actively engages in the aviation community. She was appointed to the former FAA Women in Aviation Advisory Board and has testified before House and Senate committees. Department of Aviation English Drawing on Embry-Riddle’s global reputation for excellence in aviation education, the Department of Aviation English provides specialized training that strengthens operational communication and safety across the international aviation community. Our programs serve pilots, air traffic controllers and aviation students who are preparing to meet the International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO) language proficiency requirements. Courses such as English for Air Traffic Control and English for Flight Training integrate realistic scenarios and radiotelephony exchanges to develop listening, speaking and comprehension skills in authentic aviation contexts. The department also offers an Aviation English Rater course for aviation professionals involved in English proficiency testing and evaluation. All faculty hold advanced academic degrees (master’s level) in Applied Linguistics or Teaching English as a Second Language (TESL) and combine this expertise with real-world aviation experience, ensuring that language training reflects authentic operational contexts. Recognized for their operational integrity and practical relevance, our programs can be customized for aviation organizations or taken individually through flexible online delivery — helping learners enhance clarity, confidence and performance in global aviation settings. Department of Flight The Department of Flight (DoF) is an established force in uncrewed aircraft systems (UAS). Since its beginning in 2014, the department has specialized in small uncrewed aircraft systems (sUAS), growing its inventory to over 100 aircraft that span all major manufacturers and types. These aircraft are equipped with cutting-edge sensors and software, such as infrared, multi-spectral and hyper-spectral cameras, LIDAR and chemical identification sensors. Through strategic partnerships with leading manufacturers, the DoF provides its students with access to the latest technologies and industry support, ensuring a comprehensive, hands-on learning experience. The DoF strongly emphasizes UAS flight safety, operating with a commitment to adhering to local and national regulations. The department is known for its rigorous qualification programs and a strong safety culture. Notably, the DoF was the first organization designated as an Association for Uncrewed Vehicle Systems International (AUVSI) Trusted Operator Program™ (TOP) training provider and the first to achieve TOP Level-3 Instructor qualification. Staffed by FAA-licensed crewed pilots with military flight backgrounds, the DoF’s faculty bring extensive global experience to their teaching. They have provided training in various locations, including Singapore, Germany, the U.K., the Bahamas, India, Borneo, Brazil and the U.S. The department offers both classroom and online courses, extending its reach to a global demographic. The department’s mission is to prepare the next generation of aviation professionals by providing them with the knowledge, skills, abilities and judgment needed to succeed in the global aviation community.
