It covers the 6 basic steps allowing each of us to become the collaborative leader in which is required in order to live out and connect with our passion of honoring the beauty that is the Human-Animal-Bond. It can be difficult to execute sustainable growth in veterinary medicine when we recognize the stresses and challenges that are present in the profession. While navigating through the world of veterinary medicine, each veterinary professional, leader, and business will have their unique growth to resiliency and fulfillment. With that said, what is growth and why is it so important within veterinary medicine? Change is constant throughout our lives. Over the past century, vast amounts of technological advancements, change, and growth have shown that sentiment holds true. From being able to traverse the globe on a whim, too booking that travel with our smartphone, we certainly have come a long way from a multi month journey to cross the Atlantic! Veterinary medicine is no stranger to growth over the past 100 years either. From improvements in anesthesia, to digital X-rays, change and growth are ever present in the industry. By nature, we are wired to continually develop, physically, mentally, emotionally, and spiritually. Therefore, growth within ourselves and our careers has become not only a given but an expectation. Recognizing there is a required commitment to growth can be extremely difficult. There are times it may feel forced and cause us to adjust in ways we’re not accustomed too. Maybe it causes us to feel like a failure or experience moments where the unknown makes us shrink back for fear CULTIVATING CONSCIOUSNESS Kimberly Pope-Robinson, DVM, CCFP 3:00 PM - 3:50 PM | Room 106
of imperfection. Gaining an understanding of the emotional journey around change and growth can help us to truly show up for ourselves, the teams we work with, and the pets and clients that rely on our expertise. THE VALUE OF VULNERABILITY IN LEADERSHIP Kimberly Pope-Robinson, DVM, CCFP 4:30 PM - 5:20 PM | Room 106 Entering into the veterinary industry does not always comes from a place of wanting to be a leader, yet there we are, thrust into a leadership role. We do not have to be labeled the owner or manager to be expected to lead. Patient care requires us to take control and step up to direct others to help execute treatment plans. We begin to find how others look to us for guidance and direction, all the while we feel inadequate to lead, often lost and quite possibly feel like an imposter. Imposter syndrome is a common scenario that plays out for many in this field. Yet how do we navigate feeling confident and worthy of being present without losing our vulnerability. Without falling into that space of hiding behind a mask of security and strength, when really, we are scared and feel isolated and alone. This lecture takes a look at imposter syndrome from the approach of understanding our own personal vulnerability and how to stay connected to it as we embrace our feeling of worthiness and value. Breaking the cycle of the suck it up approach will require us to be vulnerable and embrace all of ourselves.
