LIBRARY INFO
Native American Heritage Month
Belonging. What does it really mean—and what does the library have to do with it? At the Anne Arundel County Public Library, we believe belonging is more than just being welcomed—it’s about being seen, valued and included. In these increasingly divisive political times, when many people feel pushed aside, silenced or even terrorized simply for who they are, the library stands as a place of refuge and respect. Everyone Belongs at the Library
BOARD of TRUSTEES OFFICERS Damita McDonald, Chair Lonni K. As a community connector, we use our resources and partnerships to educate, enrich, and inspire the lives of all people. That means creating spaces where everyone feels safe and supported—regardless of background, identity or beliefs. Whether you’re here to explore new ideas, seek connection or simply find peace in a welcoming environment, the library is here for you. This commitment is reflected in the wide variety of programs we offer throughout the year. In this issue of Library Happenings, we celebrate Native American Heritage Month (page 3) and Hispanic Heritage Month (pages 12-13) with programs honoring the cultures, histories and accomplishments of these vibrant communities. We also recognize Transgender Awareness Week with resources and events that provide healing, support and celebration of transgender individuals and their allies. Additionally, we are proud to celebrate the sacrifices of veterans and military families (page 16). Through inclusive programming, diverse collections and compassionate staff, we’re working every day to make sure everyone who walks through our doors knows that the library is a place where all belong.
