A MESSAGE FROM HEAD OF YEAR 7
In form time this week we began our second round of Friendship Skill sessions. The workshops look at typical friendship-based scenarios that our Year 7 students might encounter. The sessions aim to equip the students with the strategies and empathy needed to help them navigate their way through the issue. In our assembly, Ms Tongue gave the year group feedback on the survey they’d completed on the transition process from Year 6 to Year 7. The feedback from the students was very useful and will help to inform our future practice. It was pleasing to see that the transition from primary school has been so positive for so many students. Well done to 7FLE, 7PIR and 7FFR who have received the most house points this week. Congratulations to 7SHU who were rewarded for their high attendance with a pizza party on Tuesday! Well done to Andrienna in 7PIR who attended the Twickenham Youth Theatre Spring Festival along with three other students from various year groups last Friday. I was delighted to hear that they all delivered exceptionally strong performances and were very supportive of each other. Well done to Daisy G from 7EDA who competed in the London Mini Marathon championships having been selected for the Richmond borough team. It has been several years since I was the Head of Year 11 yet I still receive reference requests for ex-students. The first question will invariably ask me about the attendance and punctuality of the student concerned and this goes to show how important attendance and punctuality is. Our students should aim for a minimum attendance of 96%. An attendance of 90% might seem like a good figure but this would equate to a student missing half a year of learning if it were to be maintained through the five years of Key Stage 3 and Key Stage 4. As such, I would ask that parents try to avoid keeping children at home wherever possible and that medical appointments are made out of school hours.

BOOK OF THE MONTH
‘The Ballad of Songbirds and Snakes’ by Suzanne Collins The Ballad of Songbirds and Snakes is the prequel to the popular Hunger games series. This book follows the story of a young President Snow (or Corialanus Snow, as he is called in the book). The story features the 11th Hunger games and focuses on the surprising talent of District 12’s tribute, Lucy Gray. If you like the dystopian genre and lots of action, this book is a ‘must read’! To me, the themes of friendship and betrayal were very strongly portrayed. I liked how the story progressed and the very shocking ending really stayed with me. With the release of the movie last year you can watch it, too! ~ Recommended by Ada (7PUN) Please contact us with any queries or problems you may have.
