Tote bag A We have uncovered many nuanced issues, but the most frequent across all groups is also the least surprising- the problem of perception. Many people have an outdated idea of what a library is and what the experience would be like, which can discourage some groups. these groups in a series of Big Lunches and Little Coffee Mornings. A consultation project targeting people who don't use the service naturally can be prolonged, as engaging people you don't know or can track is challenging. So far, we have engaged with Homestart and Gingerbread [supporting OnFife have seen a reduction in those visiting libraries and book borrowing, and we want to find out why this is happening and work with lapsed or potential new users to shape services which are meaningful to them. Work in Progress [WIP] is a series of creative consultation events targeting people who have stepped away from using libraries in recent years. The aim is to discover why this has happened and how we can make the library more relevant to them and their communities by exploring the activities and services each target group would like to find in their local library, focusing on tackling social isolation and positively impacting mental health and wellbeing. The project targets three groups: Men 50+, Young Parents and Lapsed Users from the Cupar, Cowdenbeath & Templehall communities of Fife, and we have been meeting with
KEY INSIGHTS ● Stereotypes and preconceived ideas keep many people away from libraries. ● Libraries accommodate families and children now far more than at any other time. ● People, even those who are not library users, can be fiercely protective of their local buildings.
