Happy New Year! We welcome in 2024, with plans to increase awareness of the dangers associated with drinking/drugging and driving, and underage drinking, as we in New England and across the country have seen a significant increase in the number of drivers/pedestrians killed due to someone making a wrong decision to drive impaired. MADD’s efforts to combat impaired driving, through advocacy, education, and innovative programming, successfully lowered the number of individuals killed from 25,000+ in 1980, when Mothers Against Drunk Driving was organized, to approximately 10,000, which held for a decade, but now the numbers are increasing year to year since the pandemic to an alarming 13,000+ in 2022. One life loss is One too many. On a lighter and brighter note – MADD CT has new special events and victim centric programs, activities, and events, being planned for the new year. First event of the year will be held on Sunday, March 10th 10:00am – 2:00pm, as we present March Pickleball MADD-NESS at Pickleball America 140 Atlantic Street (Stamford Town Center Mall) This first-time Stamford based event is open to players of all abilities even if you have never played before! We are thrilled to have the Stamford Police Department working with us on this new and exciting event. WELCOME 2024! By Bob Garguilo, Executive Director New England Region

VOLUNTEER SPOTLIGHT This month we honor Amanda, Diane and Christina For their efforts in spreading joy during the holidays in memory of their mom Diane, who was killed by a drunk driver in 2017. This year the drive collected pajamas for kids and teens spending the holidays in the hospital, stuffed animals for Toys for Tots and provided Christmas gifts for a victim family in need.
