A MESSAGE FROM HEAD OF YEAR 13
Year 13 students have now completed the mock exam window. Their teachers will be marking their mocks and students will receive their exams back with their grades in their lessons. Well done to our year 13 PE and Music students who have been completing their coursework interviews and mock music recitals throughout this week too. Students will resume lessons as normal next week. Year 13 are no longer expected to attend tutor time and so are allowed to come in for the start of their first lesson. Please can all students remember to tap in and out with their ID cards, this is essential for us to keep track of who is onsite in case of an emergency.

BOOK OF THE MONTH
‘Boy in the Tower’ by Polly Ho-Yen “When they first arrived, they came quietly and stealthily as if they tip-toed into the world when we were all looking the other way.” Through the eyes of nine-year-old Ade, we see a dystopian London be infiltrated by the “Bluchers”, menacing plants, dissolving all buildings in sight. Ade’s stabil- ity is at risk, and with a mother to care for and no chance of escape, he’s all on his own. Its unique exploration of themes such as depression, sacrifice, bravery and death make this book, despite it being a science fiction, radiate reality. Ade’s perspective of his story is handled with maturity and care, reflecting his role as a young carer that could easily place him as one of the thousands in our world. At a time of world conflicts infiltrating our lives, the ‘Boy in the Tower’ makes readers believe in true, beautiful human kindness through the relationships Ade builds throughout the novel.
