The card for October is the Moon , a perfect month for this card with all the folklore surrounding Halloween and the moon being featured in many of these stories. The moon will be in a waxing crescent illumination of 41% this year on Halloween in case you are interested and you want to get technical – (you’re welcome). Throughout history and in most cultures the moon is associated with female energy and the cycles of woman. In fact woman who are menstruating in North American Indigenous culture is on her “moon time”. The moon controls the rising and falling tides in the ocean and it is no surprise that in many Indigenous cultures around the world the responsibility and stewardship of water is the almost exclusive purview of woman. There are many ways that the moon can be interpreted, but this month I feel that the influence of the moon belongs to us, to women. Our intuition is being awakened. It isn’t enough for us to be alert to what is happening during the day, but our night time dreams and visions have a lot to tell us too. It is believed that between the autumn equinox and the winter solstice, the time known as Samhain, marks the period when the veil between the worlds of the living and the dead is at its thinnest. It doesn’t have to be all Woo Woo Ya Ya Sisterhood or anything. (Although, I would not poopoo that idea at all!!). Just be more open to the messages you are getting this month. We all have untapped talents and gifts, we just need to remain open to it.
