“We as the Host Chapter found producing the Journal financially lucrative. Of course, this success was due primarily to our local efforts to solicit corporate and individual advertisements. While the profits may have been the same had the Journal be printed or electronic the majority of our sponsors requested hard copies (for office and or tea table) of the Journal with their ads displayed. This of course contributes to their continued support to future Kappa endeavors.” Breck Cook – General Chairman 85 th Grand Chapter Meeting Host Chapter

Proposed Statutory Change

Original Language: Statute 25. Fraternity Publications Section 3. The Kappa Alpha Psi Journal shall be published in Winter, Spring, Summer and Fall or at such other times as may be determined at a Grand Chapter meeting. Proposed Language: Statute 25. Fraternity Publications Section 3. The Kappa Alpha Psi Journal shall be published in hard copy and/or in electronic form, in Winter, Spring, Summer and Fall or at such other times as may be determined at a Grand Chapter meeting. (new language is underlined) Rationale: We want to update the language to (1) avoid wasting resources as a result of outdated addresses remaining in the fraternity data base and (1) allow International Headquarters to remain in statutory compliance by converting brothers who have outdated addresses to electronic access. Benefits of the Change: The amendments allow for administrative flexibility to control costs. • 1. The supermajority of outdated addresses below to Life Members who do not have the same incentive to update their addresses as Annual Dues Paying Members. • 2. The Executive Director would automatically transfer outdated addresses onto the electronic version via IHQ in Good Standing “paywall”, thereby controlling costs. • 3. Gives brothers in Good Financial Standing the opportunity to opt into the electronic format only. • 4. allows the Journal staff to make recommendations to the Grand Board about future digital, real-time transitions on updates. • 5. Preserves the printed publication for those who prefer that medium. • 6. Maintains the Fraternity’s nonprofit publication rate through the United States Postal Service.

Digital fatigue trend is causing larger brands to revert to print. Shift to remote work ties most of us to our digital devices for long hours at home. Remote work burnout hit 69% of the U.S. population last year — driven in large part by digital interaction overload. During the pandemic, 61% of remote workers reported experiencing trouble unplugging. Market Context The data shows: • Baby Boomers read 9.2 print publications per month.

• Gen Xers read 9.1 print publications per month. • Millennials read 8.9 print publications per month.

In 2022, several factors indicate a resurgence of print, including: • Consumer preference • Higher ROI for advertisers and consumers • Desire for an in-depth counter to digital news snippets • Increasing digital fatigue

10

Market Context for Print Advertising

The data reports 86% of consumers favor print over digital, and 63% view print news as more trustworthy and able to provide a deeper understanding of current events. The data shows 92% of 18- to 23-year-olds say print is easier to read than digital. The Wall Street Journal recently reported on big retailers creating buzz by releasing traditional print catalogs — and seeing sales grow as a result. Big brand names include: • Athleta • Bonobos • H&M • IKEA • Restoration Hardware According to Retail Dive, marketers seeking a truly omnichannel customer experience are now dividing spend between print and digital. It’s another statistical indicator of print’s persistent resilience.
