Criteria... PROMOTING OPPORTUNITY (THROUGH SOCIAL MOBILITY)

The Queen’s Awards, now known as the King’s Awards, have themselves demonstrated an innovative approach over the years and introduced new categories and updates to ensure their relevance within current business markets. And so a new award was welcomed in 2017, entitled Promoting Opportunity (through Social Mobility), to acknowledge companies that are making great strides in putting into place employment schemes, training opportunities and youth development programmes. Promoting Opportunity (through Social Mobility) offers companies an opportunity to be rewarded for and share their motivational stories from across the UK. There were ten winners in the Promoting Opportunity (through Social Mobility) category for 2025. The general eligibility criteria for The Kings Awards can be found on the website https://www.gov.uk/kings-awards-for- enterprise/eligibility.

To apply for the Promoting Opportunity (through Social Mobility) award, your organisation must also have supported people from disadvantaged backgrounds in improving their job skills and their chances of finding work. This includes doing one or more of the following, for at least two years: z Providing work experience or careers advice z Mentoring z Offering interview and job-related training z Making sure your recruitment process is open to everyone

z Your organisation z Your employees z The wider community

You cannot apply if social mobility is the main focus of your organisation.

If you’re a training provider or educational organisation, you can only apply if you do one of the following: z apply with a business z have a social mobility initiative for your employees
