Team members at RSE – honoured for its innovation

Overcoming challenges RSE’s journey hasn’t come without its challenges. Industry resistance to new technology, limited resources, and shifting from site-based contracts to off-site builds posed the most significant challenges. But the company’s optimistic, resilient and action-driven approach enabled it to overcome them. It has built trust with clients and regulators by committing to invest over 10% of its annual profits into innovation, building strategic collaborative partnerships, and delivering measurable outcomes that demonstrated the reliability and value of its modular-build approach. environmentally responsible. Its off-site modular technology offers significant sustainable benefits. Installation times are reduced by up to 50%, carbon emissions are cut by over 30% through the use of recycled materials and low-impact processes, and design and installation costs are lowered by up to 20%. This innovation supports its commitment to creating a more sustainable and resilient future for communities across the UK. Building a sustainable future RSE’s modular products are not only high performing, but also designed to be Winning the King’s Award is a proud moment for the entire team. It celebrates not just the success of the m-CTU® but the dedication, collaboration and ingenuity that defines RSE. This honour underscores the team’s commitment to “Our modular m-CTU® is not just a product, it’s the future of water treatment”

Founded in the Scottish Highlands in 1982, RSE has grown from a small regional engineering company into a national leader, now employing over 2,000 people across dozens of UK sites. Its mission is to transform how water treatment solutions are designed, delivered and managed. Over four decades on, its pioneering spirit has been recognised with the highest honour in British business: the King’s Award for Enterprise in Innovation. RSE designs and manufactures products, solutions and services for purifying drinking water, recycling wastewater and treating industrial process water. With growing pressure on water infrastructure and rising demand from a growing UK population, RSE’s work is helping to address one of the country’s most critical environmental challenges. A smart solution The modular Ceramic Treatment Unit (m-CTU®) is RSE’s groundbreaking response to the complex drinking water quality challenges facing modern water treatment. Developed to meet rising demands for quality, efficiency and sustainability, the m-CTU® re-imagines the way water treatment is delivered across the UK. Water comes from diverse sources, each posing unique contamination challenges. Traditional site-built treatment plants often struggle with inefficiencies, inconsistent quality, and long construction timelines. Combined with rising financial and environmental pressures, the need for a new approach is clear. RSE has responded by pioneering a modular, off-site construction model. Units are built in controlled workshop environments and transported to site for rapid deployment, significantly reducing time and cost.
