NWRA Announces Support For NYC’s Waste Safety Plan The National Waste & Recycling Association (NWRA),Ar- lington,Virginia, has announced support for rules adopted by the NewYork City Business Integrity Commission (BIC) aimed at making the waste and recycling collection indus- try safer in the city. The new rules include regular vehicle inspections, the placement of additional mirrors on trucks to reduce blind spots and more safety training. The NWRA board of trustees recently approved a signifi- cant financial commitment to form a partnership with the National Safety Council (NSC) to better understand the safety needs of the waste and recycling industry and devel- op resources aimed at making the industry safer. Indonesia To Establish 2% Contamination Threshold Indonesia will allow the importation of recycled materials with up to 2 percent impurities, the government informed the U.S. embassy in Jakarta. Adina Renee Adler, ISRI’s Vice President of Advocacy, notified ISRI’s Board of Directors at its July 16 meeting inWashington, D.C. In 2019, the Indonesian government told ISRI the impuri- ties threshold would be 2 percent at the outset and transi- tion to 0.5 percent in two years.The rule is expected to go into effect in September.
