Schofield Construction has turned a vision of clean, modern elegance into a beautifully crafted heart of the home for two architect clients in Newtownards. The kitchen features custom birch plywood cabinetry, white quartz worktops, underfloor heating and warm, ambient lighting - but the real success lies in how it all fits together. Beneath the finish is a layer of complexity: retrofitted insulation in the vaulted ceiling, full floor excavation to reconfigure drainage, and careful coordination to deliver flawless joinery and minimal disruption. The result is a space that balances warmth and precision, simplicity and substance - a true reflection of its owners’ architectural sensibilities.
Standing proudly in the grounds of the former Belvoir Park Hospital, a 100-year-old listed building had long sat empty until Alskea Ltd stepped in with an ambition to restore rather than demolish. A sensitive conversion has delivered 29 luxurious apartments that honour the building’s origins through retained features such as sandstone emblems, terrazzo floors and the original clocktower. A masterclass in architectural conservation, sustainability and high-end delivery, Alskea cut the programme by six months by avoiding demolition. It also protected over 1,000 tonnes of embodied carbon, all while navigating structural challenges such as underpinning, damp proofing and delicate manual demolition.
