Tucked away on Malone Avenue, a tired student let has been transformed into a vibrant and stylish family home, all within a modest footprint. Mastercraft Group delivered a seamless 4sqm extension, maximised the layout with an open-plan flow and preserved the building’s character with retained stained glass and fireplaces. Outside, a drab entrance was replaced with a new brick wall, basalt steps and a tiled garden path. Designed and project- managed entirely in-house, the renovation is a case study in budget-smart, buyer-savvy construction - blending market appeal with personality and polish. Judges called the project “a well-balanced, cost-conscious upgrade”.
Breathing new life into Derry-Londonderry’s iconic Ebrington site, McKelvey Construction has transformed five listed buildings including a landmark clocktower into a four-star hotel that blends heritage with high-end hospitality. The £16.9m project delivered 90 ensuite rooms, a spa, pool, bars and conference facilities, all while preserving original sash windows, staircases and brickwork. With zero room for delay or overspend, the team innovatively reused salvaged materials, implemented solar and HVAC upgrades and completed the complex project in time for summer tourism. The result is a jewel in the city’s crown - and a masterclass in adaptive reuse.
