ensure that disruption was minimised and public safety was paramount.” “On site, the ground conditions were challenging with differing strata as the piling progressed, requiring deeper piles across the site. Through extended working and mobilisation of additional resources in conjunction with Larsen Piling, we managed to maintain our planned programme. The weather in January to March was entirely unfavourable as was to be expected in this corner of the world.” A notable aesthetic feature of the project was the use of cast-stone cladding from local supplier Craftstone, which used an innovative wet cast process to ensure a fine textured finish and a consistent pigmentation effect. The installation process was a complex task involving a dowelled joint-and- tie back system, as well as traditional mortar joints. MSM’s Site Manager Billy McCombe liaised closely with Craftstone and the design team to agree the optimum solution in terms of structure, aesthetics and buildability on-site. An on-site production line was created

for cutting and doweling the stone blocks, to maximise output and provide flexibility during the build process. “The physical appearance of the finished building with the interactions and contrasts between the external finishes are a tribute to the design flair, for example, the terracotta colour of the cast-stone cladding with the grey colours provided in the aluminium canopies, curtain walling and Dura Cladding,” said Michael. “Our company is also very satisfied how the delivery of this fast-track project by our site team and wider supply chain, has quickly been put into commercial use by the four tenants, already busy providing a wide range of services to their customers and further enhancing the retail and hospitality services on offer at Lesley Forestside.” Michael Herbert, owner of Lesley Forestside Shopping Centre, said, “We are delighted to have partnered with our main contractor MSM Contracts in the delivery of the four new restaurant units, which has greatly enhanced our

shopping centre food and drink options. “Construction works were delivered to high quality standards within a tight timeframe and caused minimal disruption to our retail operations, by overcoming a number of complexities within our busy car park. “We are pleased to continue our successful working relationship with MSM Contracts and our design team led by Hughes McMichael, by delivering further exciting improvements to our shopping centre to be completed later this year.”
