Belfast International Airport hosts NISG visit
A group of NISG members from local organisations visited Belfast International Airport (BIA) on May 21 as part of UK
Airport Safety Week (May 19-23). This visit was facilitated by Derek

Derek provided an informative presentation to attendees on ‘The nine principles of learning from adverse events’, which was followed by a fire-fighting demo with the BIA fire-fighting team hosted by Station Commander Sean O’Neill and his crew. The display included a demo of the cutting-edge techniques available for use in the event of a fire on a static plane using the Stinger device, which is capable of piercing an aircraft fuselage to extinguish or control an internal fire without the need to initially deploy fire fighters. given to the fire fighters, reduces the risk to those involved in aviation firefighting. Those attending on the day saw firsthand how risks to personnel are mitigated as far as reasonably practicable.
