INTRODUCTION TO METALSMITHING : BEGINNING JEWELRY MAKING Jewelry Making & Metalsmithing ADVANCED JEWELRY DESIGN AND FABRICATION BEGINNING WAX CARVING
In this one - day workshop , we will explore different ways to manipulate wax and the tools needed to achieve your vision . Bring your ideas and an open mind to learn a new way of creating jewelry . Wax and tools will be provided by the studio , so you won ' t need to bring anything to get started . A supply list will be provided before the workshop , if you wish to shop for your own supplies . We will not be casting in this workshop , but we will discuss resources and next steps for casting your creations .
This class is designed for self - directed students with previous experience in intermediate / advanced technical skills . Continuing intermediate and advanced students that wish to expand their design and fabrication techniques will work on independent projects with instructor input and one - on - one guidance . Demos and design discussions will be ongoing .
This course is for beginners with no prior experience in a metals studio . It will focus on introducing fundamental fabrication skills such as sawing , filing , texturing , shaping , polishing and basic stone setting . You will learn studio safety , how to determine the order of construction , as well as the proper and safe use of tools and equipment . You will also learn to become comfortable with using a flex shaft and an acetylene torch . Our fully stocked studio provides all the tools necessary . Material requirements and cost ( metal and cabochon stones ) will be discussed in the first class ( approximately $ 40 ). Also good for people who have not worked with metal in a while and want a basic refresher course .
Prerequisite : Three ( 3 ) Jewelry fabrication classes and by permission of the instructor .

BEGINNING / INTERMEDIATE JEWELRY & METALSMITHING
SANDCASTING WORKSHOP
Sandcasting is a fast way to cast simple objects in metal . In this small group workshop , you will learn how to pack the flask and melt and pour the metal to complete the cast . Because it ’ s a small group , you will be able to cast a few times . The materials fee includes the sand and gas needed . You will need to provide some things to mold and your choice of sterling silver or brass for casting .
Students will learn traditional metalsmithing techniques like piercing , soldering , forming , texturing , and bezel setting to create jewelry of their own design or an assigned project . Emphasis will be placed on proper use of tools and materials to create a beautiful , well crafted , and comfortable jewelry item that will last years of wear . Projects range from rings , bracelets , pendants and earrings . All tools and materials provided except silver and gemstones . Supply sources will be discussed at first class .
THE BASICS AND BEYOND : JEWELRY MAKING AND METALSMITHING
This course will continue the focus on basic fabrication techniques , help students solidify their skills , and begin to develop their own design ideas . Students will work on advancing their fabrication skills as required by more complex instructor guided projects which may include , but will not be limited to additional methods of stone setting , clasps , hinges , cold connections such as rivets , and chain - making . Problem solving , construction , and craftsmanship are strongly emphasized in this mixed level class . Good for students who enjoy being inspired by people of varying levels of skill and experience . Material requirements and cost will be discussed in the first class ( approximately $ 40 ).
