OPENING SHOT
SCAPEGWOAT: Claressa Shields dominated Kaye Scott to an emphatic sixth-round TKO at the State Farm Arena in Atlanta on August 15. While the atmosphere at the venue was red- hot, Shields came under fire on social media due to the one-sided nature of the contest. Scott, 42, had been professional for less than three years and brought a paltry 5-1-1 record into the contest, so perhaps that reaction was expected. On the flip side, Scott held the WBA and WBC middleweight titles, which the self-proclaimed G.W.O.A.T. was looking to regain in her first fight at the weight in over three years. If Shields is too good for reigning world titleholders, then that’s not her fault.
