Dear Friends, Welcome to the 2024 Pink Roses Teal Magnolias celebration. We are so happy to have you join us as we continue the legacy of this incredible event and honor this year’s Pink Roses Teal Magnolias Heroes. As always, we are inspired by our patients and their families as they face cancer with strength and determination. We are equally inspired by our dedicated team of professionals who provide the highest level of compassionate care to our patients. At MD Anderson Cancer Center at Cooper no one fights cancer alone, which is why our team has become the first choice for patients across this region. Your generous support has helped us provide patients with advanced treatment options and supportive care services; cancer prevention, education, and screening services; expanding research capabilities; and most of all hope. We extend our heartfelt thanks and sincere appreciation for your generosity and appreciate your partnership in the fight against women’s cancer. Sincerely,

Dear Friends, Welcome to the 2024 Pink Roses Teal Magnolias celebration! For the last 14 years, our event has become a South Jersey tradition, raising more than $8 million for breast and gynecologic programs at MD Anderson Cancer Center at Cooper. I am thrilled to see our community of survivors, families, friends, and health care providers coming together once again, united in the fight against women’s cancers. With your support, we continue to expand and grow our services and add new cancer experts to our team to meet the increasing demand for our multidisciplinary approach to cancer care. In 2024, we added a fifth gynecologic oncologist to our group to better serve our growing community of patients. Our breast cancer team continues to lead the way in the region as the largest breast cancer program in South Jersey. Thanks to cancer education, screening, early detection, and advances in treatment, the survival rates for cancer patients are increasing. But there is still work to do. The funds we raise help us to ensure women and their families have access to advanced cancer care and support services throughout their cancer journey. I would like to take this opportunity to recognize the group of remarkable women who serve on our planning committee. Thank you for being part of this movement and helping to make this event a success year after year. I also extend my thanks to our clinical and administrative teams for their ongoing support in upholding the legacy of this event. This year we are proud to recognize our Pink and Teal Heroes – Christina Chu, MD, FACOG, Pauline Germaine, DO, and Rebecca Jaslow, MD – who are on the frontline, providing expert and compassionate care to our patients, each and every day. Pink Roses Teal Magnolias is more than an event, more than just a fundraiser. It is a celebration of community and hope. It is a sisterhood. It is our ongoing commitment to fighting women’s cancers as a dedicated, collaborative, and inspired team, because at MD Anderson at Cooper – no one fights cancer alone . Sincerely,

Generosa Grana, MD Director, MD Anderson Cancer Center at Cooper

Pauline Germaine, DO

Diagnostic Radiologist & Women’s Imaging Specialist MD Anderson Cancer Center at Cooper About Me Most patients do not know us, the radiologists, but we are the invisible partners in their cancer diagnosis and treatment journey. From behind the screen, we play a crucial role in their care, silently rooting for their recovery with each scan or procedure. In breast imaging, I am acutely aware of the vulnerability patients feel when they see us. I strive not only to be a physician, guiding them through their journey, but also their advocate, as I strongly believe every patient needs support to navigate the complexities of our healthcare system. MD Anderson at Cooper recommends taking the following steps to detect breast cancer in its earliest, most treatable, stages: Mammograms: Women 40 and over should have a yearly screening mammogram. Clinical breast exams: Women in their 20s and 30s should receive a clinical breast exam once every 3 years, and women 40 and over should have one annually. Women should know how their breasts normally look and feel and report any changes promptly to their health care provider. All women 20 and older should perform a monthly breast self-exam. High Risk: Some women - because of their family history, a genetic tendency, or certain other factors - may need breast cancer screenings at an earlier age, more frequently, and/or using different screening methods. Talk with your doctor about your health history and whether you should be referred to a High Risk Breast Cancer Program. Breast Cancer Screenings Save Lives One-in-eight women in the U.S. today will get breast cancer. Preventing and detecting breast cancer early saves lives, and with advanced technologies like digital mammography and digital breast tomosynthesis, MD Anderson Cancer Center at Cooper breast imaging experts can see deeper and more clearly to find cancer earlier than ever. The earlier breast cancer is detected and diagnosed, the greater the chances of survival.

Listen for the Whispers of Ovarian Cancer

Symptoms and signs of ovarian cancer vary from woman to woman, but they may include: General abdominal discomfort or pain (gas, indigestion, pressure, swelling, bloating, cramps) Bloating and/or a feeling of fullness, even after a light meal Nausea, diarrhea, constipation or frequent urination Unexplained weight loss or gain Loss of appetite Abnormal vaginal bleeding Unusual fatigue Back pain Pain during sex Menstrual changes Ovarian cancer is difficult to detect, especially, in the early stages. Most women with ovarian cancer have vague symptoms. These signs often are like less serious conditions including indigestion, weight gain or aging. These symptoms do not always mean you have ovarian cancer, but it's a good idea to discuss them with your health care provider if they: Are new symptoms Last more than a few weeks Occur more than 12 times a month To make an appointment with a gynecologic cancer specialist at MD Anderson Cancer Center at Cooper, call 855.MDA.COOPER (855.632.2667) The chances for successful ovarian cancer treatment are much higher if the cancer is caught early and diagnosed accurately. If ovarian cancer is diagnosed in the early stages, the chances for successful treatment are high.
