Lazy D Red Angus - Online Bull Sale [2/18/26]

Annual Production Sale February 16-18, 2026

Online only at DVAuction.com Bidding opens at 8 AM CST, February 16th & closes at 8 PM CST, February 18th

Welcome to our 11th Annual Production Sale! For those who don’t know us, we are a fifth- and sixth-generation family farm and ranch in northwestern North Dakota, with the seventh generation in the making. Our family homesteaded here in 1906, originally raising crops and several different breeds of commercial cattle, with the most recent commercial herd being Red Angus. In 2012, John began his vision of building a registered Red Angus herd by purchasing our first registered females. We sold our first private-treaty bulls in 2014 and hosted our first official private-treaty sale in 2016. Cattlemen, it’s no secret that we are experiencing historic and exciting times in the cattle industry. With that opportunity comes the responsibility of careful genetic selection for tomorrow. With the national cattle inventory at the lowest level in 74 years, added carcass weight and high-yielding cattle are more important than ever. As every breeder says, we feel this year’s offering is as exciting as any group of bulls and females we have ever assembled. While that may sound repetitive year after year, it’s something every producer should be glad to hear—it means progress is being made, both within individual herds and across the industry as a whole. This year’s bulls have been selected from the top end of our 2025 calf crop, with an emphasis on phenotype, performance, and structural correctness. Our bulls are developed on a TMR ration. We believe they are fed properly—not pushed nor underfed—to promote sound development and long-term performance. Just as athletes balance nutrition to meet their demands, bulls are athletes as well. They’re expected to travel, breed, and work, and proper nutrition is essential to prepare them for their first breeding season. We continue to pursue progress and improvement in our herd for the benefit of the industry. Our breeding program includes natural service, extensive use of AI, and recent expansion into embryo transfer. We operate with a strict breeding season, pulling bulls consistently each year to maintain fertility and naturally identify and remove underperforming cows.

This year’s sale will once again be online-only through www.DVAuction.com.

We would love to have you come out and tour the offering prior to sale day. To encourage this, we are offering a $100 “boots-on-the-ground” credit to anyone who views the bulls in person before the sale. As always, no one knows our cattle better than we do. Stop by and stroll through the bulls with us, or give us a call. We would be happy to answer any questions about our cattle, our operation, or the sale, and help you find the next breeding piece to move your herd forward.

May God be with you in this new year of adventures, and may your hearts be aligned with His.

Cody Berg

God bless, and happy bidding!

Red Angus Guide to EPDS and Indexes GM ..... GridMaster is a selection index that predicts the average economic difference of non-replacement calves through the post- weaning phase of production. GM places selection pressure on growth, feedyard

ProS ... Profi tability and Sustainability is an all-purpose index that predicts average economic differences in all segments in the beef supply chain. This index is a combination of the breeding objectives modeled in the HerdBuilder and GridMaster selection indexes. In this index, replacement heifers are retained from within the herd and all remaining progeny are fed out to slaughter and sold on a quality-based grid. Traits included in this index include calving ease, growth, HPG, STAY, Mature Weight, Dry Matter Intake and carcass traits. The resulting index is expressed in dollars per head born (Index/High Value).

HB ..... HerdBuilder is a maternal selection index that predicts the economic differences of animals for traits that are important from conception through weaning. Expressed as dollars per head born, HB is calculated based on the scenario that bulls are mated to heifers and cows, replacement heifers are retained and all remaining progeny are marketed at weaning. Traits included in the HB index include Calving Ease Direct, Calving Ease Maternal, Weaning Weight, Milk, Mature Weight, Heifer Pregnancy and Stayability (Index/High Value).

Yearling Bulls

We have been highly anticipating the first offspring of the $110,000 Commander 0100 son… and WOW! To say we are pleased with this first set of progeny out of Berwald Awestruck 3071 is an understatement. The impact this sire can have on the breed is just beginning. When you evaluate the pen for sire groups, Awestruck offers the most structured, muscled-up, mature, high-performing, and eye-appealing bulls in the entire group. The consistency we’ve seen in these calves is second to none—and the footnotes for this sire group are going to get very repetitive. 5084 checks a lot of boxes: long-bodied, big-topped, thick- ended, deep-middled, and built with the kind of muscle and structure that holds up. Plain and simple, he’s just built right in our opinion… and I don’t think many are going to argue with that.

Ricky Bobby said, “If you’re not first, you’re last.” Well… that isn’t true in this situation. Any of these Awestruck bulls could be the lead-off bull in this year’s catalog. That’s how consistent they are—and how pleased we are with the job they’ve done. Now, don’t get me wrong, we can look at any bull or cow and pick them apart, but this sire group has a LOT going for it. 5099 is a stud! He’s an extra rib longer, square-made from shoulder to tail, big-topped, and loaded with power through his hip and hindquarter. His curb appeal is impossible to ignore.

Yearling Bulls

We were very fond of BAR M Way Maker 0060, the bull we purchased from Barenthsen–Bullinger Red Angus, and Waymaker 3001 is proving to be a very worthy heir to his sire. 5118 is the most shaped-up 3001 son in the sale. He carries a sleek hair coat that gives him a refined, sophisticated look. He presents great dimension...showing off his length and straight, solid topline. 5118 is the kind that’s built right and still delivers performance—traits that will carry over into his calves.

Another gem out of 3071. As previously mentioned, the footnotes for this sire group will be copy-and-paste—they’re just flat out performing. 5095 is a power bull with solid feet and powerful legs, ready to cover some ground. He’s deep...big-middled, with the kind of mass and shape that gets your attention. I’m evaluating these bulls honestly and bringing what I see onto the page. If I could change one thing, I’d make him a touch longer-bodied—but that’s a tough comparison when his half-brothers are all extra lengthy. Regardless, 5095 brings power, structure, and performance to the table in a big way.

Yearling Bulls

This bull brings an exciting first for us. 5110 is the first ET calf we’ve ever offered out of one of the true power cows in our herd—one we decided to try flushing. 5110 is built on sturdy leg structure and carries an ideal Angus skull shape. He has free, cat-like movement that demands attention when he moves. His dam, 9013, is a big, broody cow that catches the eye every time she’s present. Honestly, she’s about as close to a perfect cow as you can make one—high-scoring toe shape and leg structure, tight- uddered, ideal teat size, and she maintains body condition with ease. She comes from a cow line that consistently produces, and she’s even more impressive when you consider she is the only female her dam ever raised.

Stockyard 2001 calves proved their worth from birth. They hit the ground with vigor and growth. You could walk out into the pair pastures and pick out the Stockyard calves from their toplines. We’ve really appreciated the body shape and muscle design that 2001 consistently stamps—especially when you combine that with calving ease! 5024 has a fine hair coat that brings a lot of eye appeal, as well as his strong maturing phenotype. His dam did an excellent job and claimed a 103 MPPA after her first calf.

Holy smokes...did someone say stocky? If you like square-made powerful bulls with a little extra birth weight, then this guy is for you! I don’t know what more to say other than HEFTY, HEFTY, HEFTY! 5217 demands attention in the pen and shouts herd bull. This guy will surely stiffen up a group of steer calves. Stout, bold, and shaped from front to back - he’s loaded with muscle and power. I wouldn’t be afraid of the couple added birthing pounds that he showed because the payoff in mass, shape, and performance is hard to ignore.

They’re most likely not going to shape up to be big, tall, framed bulls—but they will weigh up and add pounds in body mass. Pair that with NEW DIRECTION R240 as his maternal grand sire. The R240 females are some cows that we are really fond of— they’re simply built right, and they function with whatever we cross them with. 5068 is a balanced bull: square-made and level-designed. He’s the type that’s going to bring longevity to a program. You will want to pay attention to the solid foundation on 5054, followed by a strengthened middle and a big top. You might also notice that I haven’t pointed out many EPDs in these footnotes. Don’t get me wrong—EPDs are important and extremely useful tools when evaluating cattle for specific traits. However, we believe in focusing first on the traits that can’t be calculated: structure, feet and legs, body shape, muscle, balance, and overall functionality. From there, we can sort through the measurable traits that are calculated and processed through data collection. Also, anyone who looks through a catalog can see the numbers themselves, so there is no need for me to repeat them in the footnotes.

3009 did a great job with her first calf, and Lot 12 is a nice example of that success. He brings balanced performance and pairs it with an easy, functional build. We’ve really appreciated the kind of form Stockyard has brought to his calves. They came easily, yet still had the foundation set to grow into—never looking “stunted” from too much calving ease.

Don’t overlook 5008 for use on heifers. He’s long-bodied and smooth-made with a level topline, and I still feel he can work on heifers—even with an 82 lb. birth weight. He should also add some growth and performance to a set of calves. His dam weaned off a lot of pounds for a first-time mama, all while maintaining great body condition and breeding back the way she should.

BB PROPULSION 9096 has been used many places with much success. True Grit 3059 is a testament to that, adding volume and fleshing ability. This guy is heavily muscled up front and big topped. His maternal granddam is a BIG-time producing cow for us, year after year, producing power calves while boasting a 113 MPPA! She has maternal strength and longevity.

Be sure to pay attention to the length of body on Lot 26—he’s extra long-made and built with the kind of design that’s hard to overlook. He ranks in the top 1% for calving ease and does an excellent job balancing performance with calving ease in a true heifer bull package. If you’re looking for effortless calving, you’ll want to have Lot 26 on your list.

Don’t let the size of 5065 fool you. He may be the most moderate Awestruck son in the sale, but he is shaped up and loaded with power. Big-hipped and stout made, he’s the kind that is going to blossom into a big-time herd bull. If you want the power and performance of 3071 in a more moderate package, Lot 29 is your bull.

This is a rare opportunity for us to offer—and a very, very hard one to let go. We have never sold a registered heifer in our sale, but we couldn’t think of a better one to break the ice! Ms Copper Penny is the first 3071 daughter to sell anywhere, and she is not going to disappoint. She demands attention—super long-bodied, thick-topped, big-hipped, and just flat-out put together… all while staying feminine and extremely athletic. She ranks in the top 6% of the breed for six traits and brings a stacked pedigree to the table. You’ve already seen the consistency and power in the Awestruck sire group, so now let’s talk about the cow power behind her. Her maternal granddam is a super attractive Code Red daughter who is big-middled, tight-udderded, and a big-time producing female. She has weaned off 5,500 pounds of natural calf over 8 calves, holds a 113 MPPA, and continues to breed up every year. As we get more serious about flushing cows, we plan to capitalize on her before her career is up. The dam of 5042 is nearly identical to her mother and has been just as productive. She stands on solid feet and has an excellent udder with ideal teat size. You will not want to be runner-up on this program-changing 3071 daughter! Retaining the right to two successful flushes with a guarantee of 8 viable embryos, at the buyer’s convenience and the seller’s expense.

We would like to make notice of parentage on lot 32. We are still waiting for her DNA to be processed, but she is sired by either Red U2Q President 2178K or BB True Grit 3059 , and we will have her sire verification on the supplement sheet. This is another heifer I’m not sure why we are letting go. I’ve already raved about the maternal strength, power, performance, and longevity of the Code Red 6004 cow—who is the dam of 5257—and this female is a direct reflection of that kind of cow power. This heifer is as broody as they come. She’s super big- middled and as strong and flat-topped as you can make a female. She is a beacon in the pen and just flat-out attractive! She has an excellent skull shape and carries herself with a sassy

walk, supported by exceptional leg structure and toe shape. These two heifers truly represent the top end of our herd, and we believe they can make a huge impact on any operation. 40 COMMERCIAL RED ANGUS YEARLING HEIFERS

This year’s group of commercial heifers is a set we are exceptionally proud of. They come from the very top of our commercial herd and are as consistent as they come. We take a lot of pride in offering these heifers as 100% sired by Lazy D Red Angus bulls, as we have used only our own raised bulls on our commercial herd for several years. These girls have all been bangs vaccinated and have received 2 rounds of shots. Watch for more data coming on supplement sheet! They will sell in 4 separate lots in GATE-CUT groups of 10 head.

Guest Consignment Commercial Bred Heifers

10 COMMERCIAL BRED HEIFERS 34 Guest consignment bred heifers from Mike Kueffler at Kueffler Red Angus. Heifers are home-raised and are due to start calving March 26, and were pasture exposed to Low BW Pie Captain and KJL/CLZB Complete sons for 60 days. All heifers were poured on 12/28/2025. Berwald Awestruck 3071 was the second-highest-selling bull at the 2024 Berwald Red Angus Production sale, demanding $110,000 for us to bring him home. We tirelessly searched for a Commander 0100 son and decided he was the right one to get behind, and we have not looked back since. His first set of progeny has been super consistent in several aspects. If you want to add some frame size and growth to your herd, he’s the bull for the job. We have also been pleased with how he shapes up the foot and leg structure of his offspring. He has been super consistent at covering cows out in the pasture, coming in 1 short of 100% breed up for both breeding seasons. He has also proved his fertility, settling many cows to AI this year.
