You will want to pay attention to the solid foundation on 5054, followed by a strengthened middle and a big top. You might also notice that I haven’t pointed out many EPDs in these footnotes. Don’t get me wrong—EPDs are important and extremely useful tools when evaluating cattle for specific traits. However, we believe in focusing first on the traits that can’t be calculated: structure, feet and legs, body shape, muscle, balance, and overall functionality. From there, we can sort through the measurable traits that are calculated and processed through data collection. Also, anyone who looks through a catalog can see the numbers themselves, so there is no need for me to repeat them in the footnotes.

You’ve heard me go on enough about the Awestruck bulls, so I’ll keep it simple with 5081—he’s built just like the rest of them. If there’s one word that properly sums up this sire group, it’s consistency. His dam, MS Cowboy Kind 9021, is a very functional female and has done an excellent job producing bull calves so far, earning herself a 104 MPPA.

3009 did a great job with her first calf, and Lot 12 is a nice example of that success. He brings balanced performance and pairs it with an easy, functional build. We’ve really appreciated the kind of form Stockyard has brought to his calves. They came easily, yet still had the foundation set to grow into—never looking “stunted” from too much calving ease.
