Sudden Financial Needs: Emergencies, travel costs, or “exclusive” investment opportunities. Untraceable Payments: Requests for gift cards, wire transfers, crypto, or payment apps. Moving Off Platform: Pushing to communicate on other apps to avoid detection.
How to Protect Yourself
Verify Identity: Insist on live video calls, ask them to hold up a current date/phrase. Reverse Image Search: Check profile photos for misuse. Stay Private: Don’t overshare personal info or move off dating apps too soon. Talk to Others: Discuss potential partners with trusted friends or family. Never Send Money: To anyone you haven’t met in person, especially for emergencies. Report & Block: Cut contact immediately if suspicious and report the profile.
