ALL BULLS WERE TESTED THROUGH THE AMERICAN SIMMENTAL ASSOCIATION UTILIZING THE 100K DNA TEST
How does a genomic test benefit our customers?
More accurate EPD - Genomic testing is a way to add information to what is known about an animal’s genetic potential even before they have progeny of their own. The commitment to add a genomic test to the genetic predictions enables our customers to have higher-accuracy EPD when they make their buying decisions. One way to think of the information gained is by asking how many progeny would this animal need

Color & Polled Guide: Homo Black: All calves will be black if mated to a black or non-dilutor red cow. Hetero Black: I f mated to a non-dilutor red cow ½ the calves will be black and ½ will be red. Homo Polled: All calves will be Polled. Hetero Polled: If mated to a horned cow ½ of the calves will be Polled and ½ will be horned. Non-Dilutor : If mated to a Hetero black cow, ½ the calves will be black and ½ will be red. If mated to a Homo black cow, all calves will be black. Dilutor : If mated to black cow, you might get a grey calf. Confidence in the pedigree - Each genomic test includes parentage markers to both confirm the animal’s own pedigree (if his parents’ DNA markers are available) and for future parent verification of their own calves. By testing the DNA for parentage, you can be sure the pedigree is correct. Your success is our success. We take our job seriously. to provide a similar increase in the accuracy of the EPD for that trait? These are referred to as progeny equivalents. Below is a table of current progeny equivalents. Adding a genomics test is like adding over 25 calving ease records or 22 birth weights on progeny to the EPD. As you can see for some of these traits, a genomically-enhanced EPD is like knowing an entire calf-crop worth of information for bulls or a lifetime of calves for females.
The Value of Nutrition and the power of your next bull purchase The proper care, feeding and management of a young sire will insure that you will be happy with the return on investment. By managing yearling bulls properly, your investment will return dividends for many years down the road. Dakota Xpress takes pride in the development of our bulls. Our bulls are feed a high roughage ration consisting of corn silage, chopped hay, corn, corn distillers, and a mineral and vitamin package. The TMR bull ration is fed to develop frame, muscle, and scrotal development without fattening the bulls. This ration has worked well to alleviate problems with fertility, feet and leg problems, and to ensure the longevity of the bulls. At Dakota XPress the fertility of the herd bull is even more important than its growth performance. So in addition to protein and energy, we make sure that the rations contain an adequate trace mineral package. There - fore the mineral package contains chelated zinc, copper, manganese, and organic selenium to enhance reproductive performance. The cow herd also receives a mineral package to enhance their reproductive performance as well. Dakota XPress understands the investment you are making in these young herd sires. We would like to help you develop the bulls after the sale through our feeding, fertility testing and delivery program.
