Carcass: The carcass star ranking is based on the combination of either ribeye or marbling EPD whether they excel in one or the other or both for improving carcass traits. A 5-star rated bull will potentially increase overall carcass traits.
Calving ease: Calving Ease stars are ranked on the CE/BW EPD’s, along with cow family pedigree and BW ratio’s when considering use on heifers. With that thought, a bull with 1-5 stars can be used on any mature cow, and 4-5 stars for possible use on virgin heifers and on cows coming with their 2nd calf.

Carcass
Performance: The star ranking for weaning/ yearling performance is based on growth EPD’s and dam’s ratios for growth, making the 5-star rated bull the highest performing bulls for weaning and yearling weights.
Maternal: The maternal star ranking is based on the maternal weaning weight EPD along with maternal milk EPD, this makes a 5-star rated individual the highest in maternal traits.
