President’s MESSAGE

BOARD OF DIRECTORS

David E. Wilks, President Cameron B. McDonald, Vice President David D. Wilkinson, Treasurer Jeffrey Ciconte, Secretary

Just a short note this month, because I hope that many of you will attend the Meet With The Prez event on Thursday, February 5th at 5:30 in the Ballroom. I will have some new information to share and will be happy to listen to any ideas or concerns that you have. I’ll answer your questions about the Club, why things happen the way they do and how things are run. Please do attend! For those of us who hold down the fort here in the Northeast in the tough month of February, these ridiculously cold temperatures don’t make life any easier. But the Club offers so many distractions that we almost don’t notice that it’s always dark outside and we can’t feel our toes. We have the Commissioners in the squash department, which is one of our very best annual events. Both indoor racquets facilities are open for tennis and pickleball. The golf simulator is never lonely. And both locker rooms now have saunas. Also, please remember that Valentine’s Day in the Dining Room is unbeatable. Of course, every experience in the Dining Room is fantastic, but this one should not be missed. So, as we endure the trials of February, let’s endure them together at our wonderful Club. Victor and the team in the Pub is always ready to help take the edge off. Hoping to see you on the 5 , but if you cannot be there, please drop me a note at dwilks.wcc@gmail.com with any questions or comments you might have. th

Winter Greetings! General Manager’s MESSAGE

MANAGEMENT TEAM

Culinary will be offering a cooking class on Thursday the 19 teaching the techniques of fresh pasta making. Attendance is limited to a dozen members – no guests. These opportunities always fill quickly. th How is your progress on meeting those pesky New Year’s Resolutions? If your goal for the New Year includes the phrase “drop a few pounds” or “get in shape”, we are here to help. Personal training and Group Exercise programs are available seven days a week. There is no better time to tackle that resolution than now and no more comfortable place than at your club! Don’t know how to get started? Anyone on our fitness team can help. Don’t forget to cap off a great workout with a great massage. You owe it to yourself! The next item is to remind those members who have not yet met their food minimum that you have until March 31 to do so. Please do not wait until the final week. If you fail to fulfill this obligation, the balance will be charged to your account. Please don’t ask for relief or special consideration – none can be given. Additionally, if you wish to change your food minimum option (pre-paid annual or pay-as-you-go semiannual) now is the time! st In the next few weeks, all members will be receiving an outline of the many opportunities to celebrate your club’s 125 Anniversary. When received, you will see that the schedule centers around the first weekend after Memorial Day. This coincides with the first “meeting of the subscribers” that was held on May 27, 1901. Especially important will be to save the date of Saturday May 30 to attend the club’s signature celebration event. You won’t want to miss it. th th As always, the fitness room, golf simulator, squash courts and indoor racquets courts are open seven days a week. Outdoors, paddle or a walk around the hiking path provide a chance to enjoy some fresh air. The Club’s dining facilities are open Wednesday through Sunday for lunch/dinner and take-out remains a popular option.

Christine Jordan Director of Clubhouse Operations

And what a winter it is turning out to be. Let’s begin with a special “thank you” to our grounds team who have done a simply marvelous job at keeping our parking lots, walkways and facilities open and available. Sure, it’s their “job” but they have gone above and beyond what would be required in any normal year, and their effort is worthy of recognition. They display the same pride in clearing snow as they do in providing great golf conditions. Well done! Even though all the teams from our region failed to advance to the big game, on Sunday the 8th, the Super Bowl will be on every screen in Pub37. We’ll be having a “watch party”, complete with drink specials and football fare. No need to sign up, just come and enjoy. We already have a couple of “square boards” available to add to the fun. Can’t join us for the big game? We understand. Over the past few years, we have also seen an increase in the amount of food carried out for those who are either attending or hosting a house party. We are featuring a special menu that includes all your “football favorites”. There is still time to place your order . . . just give us a call. Setting Super Bowl Sunday aside, the most important social event of the month is always Valentine’s Day. The 14 falls on a Saturday this year. We are featuring a special “sweethearts” dining experience that is complete with all the details to create the perfect setting to share with that “special someone”. Of course, the entire evening is centered around the wonderful menu that Chef Tip has developed. Seating is limited to the first 80 people and because it is held in the Dining Room cannot be expanded. So far, there are still a few spots available, but we expect that will change and we will end up on a waiting list. When that happens, don’t get discouraged. If history is a guide, cancellations will occur, and we are typically very successful in accommodating many of those on the list. Of course, the Grill/Tavern is also available as a back-up option. th

From the ARCHIVES

Arnold Palmer first visited Wilmington Country Club in 1963 for an exhibition match, beginning a decades-long relationship with the club. Drawn by the beauty of the course and the friendships he formed with members, Palmer returned often and came to regard Wilmington as a special place throughout his storied career. One of his most memorable visits came in 1966, when Palmer faced Jack Nicklaus in a highly anticipated match highlighted by Palmer’s hole-in-one on the par-3 13th hole—a moment that quickly became part of club lore. For many who witnessed it, the shot symbolized the excitement and charisma Palmer brought wherever he played. Another legendary chapter followed in 1978, when Palmer accepted a bet that he could not reach the 603-yard 16th hole in two shots. His second shot finished about 20 yards short of the green, but his third found the hole for an unforgettable eagle. In classic Palmer fashion, he later settled the wager by buying the caddie a six-pack of beer and autographing each can, turning a friendly challenge into one of Wilmington’s most enduring stories. Palmer’s enduring bond with Wilmington Country Club was further cemented in 2013, when the club hosted the Palmer Cup, the international collegiate competition he cherished. The event reflected Palmer’s deep commitment to developing the next generation of players and celebrating amateur golf at its highest level. The 2013 Palmer Cup featured future professional standout Justin Thomas, and the U.S. team defeated the International side by a decisive margin of 20.5–9.5. Hosting the Palmer Cup placed Wilmington on an international stage and underscored the lasting legacy Arnold Palmer built at the club—one defined by great golf, generosity of spirit, and a genuine connection to the people who call Wilmington home.

Thankfully, racquets season is in full swing — and keeping us warm, whether it feels like a tennis court…or a skating rink out there! February is FUN at WCC, and our courts continue to be the place to be all winter long. Mark your calendars for University of Delaware tennis at the Club. The women’s team plays Friday, February 13 and March 15, and the men’s team takes the courts on Sunday, February 22. Best of all, they are undefeated at WCC — let’s go Hens! We encourage members to come out, watch some great collegiate tennis, and help cheer on the teams. Our junior players are also hitting the road for friendly matches against Roosevelt Island, NY on February 14. These trips are a great opportunity for our juniors to gain match experience, build confidence, and represent WCC on the road. We wish all of our players and coaches the best of luck. Paddle has been nonstop this winter, with Cup play heating up across multiple teams and the Mixed Morrow proving to be a big hit. It has been great to see so much energy, friendly competition, and full courts throughout the season, along with strong participation from players of all levels. And while winter is still in full force, summer is already on the horizon, with plans underway for grand pool festivities and our most fun and activity-packed Summer Camp yet. More details will be coming soon, but we are excited for another great summer at the Club.

Last week, our Professional Staff attended the PGA Merchandise Show in Florida, an annual gathering of golf professionals, manufacturers, retailers, and media from around the world. The PGA Show serves as the premier platform for unveiling the latest innovations in golf. Our team had the opportunity to preview a wide range of new products, including some that will be arriving in the Golf Shop this spring. Each February, the Bulletin serves as our New Golf Club Issue, highlighting the latest equipment coming to the Golf Shop this season. Properly fitted clubs provide a meaningful advantage for golfers looking to improve performance and consistency. Consider scheduling a complimentary club fitting or attending one of our fitting days this spring to evaluate whether new equipment could enhance your game.

2026 NEW GOLF CLUBS

TAYLORMADE

CALLAWAY

The new TaylorMade Qi4D lineup builds on last year’s Qi35 woods, continuing TaylorMade’s multi material construction using titanium, tungsten, carbon fiber, aluminum, and steel to fine tune performance. A key advancement in the Qi4D drivers is a redesigned carbon face with an improved roll radius, improved aerodynamics, and more controlled spin and more efficient launch conditions than last year’s models. This results in improved ball speed retention and more consistent distance, particularly on high and low face strikes. There is also a significant update to their fitting shafts with this lineup, featuring a story on shaft rotation profiles. Similar to the Qi35, the Qi4D driver family includes a core model, a Max option focused on forgiveness and draw bias, a lightweight Max Lite version for moderate swing speeds, and an LS model designed for lower spin and a more penetrating ball flight. Fairway woods and rescues follow the same design philosophy, offering confidence and versatility from both the tee and the turf. Qi4D SelectFit heads feature integrated launch monitor tracking technology, allowing our Professional Staff to capture detailed face and delivery data with Foresight GCQuad. This insight helps refine shaft and head selection, leading to more precise fitting and more consistent on course performance.

The new Callaway Quantum lineup builds on last year’s Elyte model with targeted changes designed to improve ball speed, launch efficiency, and consistency on off-center strikes. At the center of the update is Callaway’s latest Ai-designed face, developed using expanded impact mapping. Simply put, Callaway used computer modeling and real swing data to study where golfers actually strike the ball on the clubface, then redesigned the face so shots hit across a wider area launch more consistently and spin more predictably, not just those struck in the center. Callaway also used three distinct materials in the face construction for the first time: titanium, a military-grade polymer, and carbon fiber. Independent testing shows improved ball speed retention of up to two miles per hour on low- face strikes compared to the previous generation. As in previous generations, the driver lineup includes Max and Max D models focused on stability and draw bias, along with Triple Diamond options designed for players seeking lower spin and greater shot control. Fairway woods and hybrids follow the same design intent, incorporating updated sole shaping and face geometry to improve turf interaction and maintain speed from a variety of lies.

The new Callaway Quantum woods deliver measurable gains in consistency and clearer performance separation between models, giving golfers more precise fitting options than in prior generations

13

TITLEIST

Titleist continues to deliver meaningful performance improvements across the bag in 2026, led by updates to its short game and putting lines, with new metalwoods scheduled to arrive later this spring. This will be a departure from their traditional release date of August, with the next generation GT woods scheduled for April or May of this year. Full details will be available soon, including fitting opportunities. Released in mid-January, the new Vokey Design SM11 wedges build on the proven SM platform with refined center of gravity progression throughout the loft range. SM11 wedges feature more precise CG placement to improve trajectory control and consistency, producing lower flight and higher spin in higher lofts while maintaining distance control in the scoring wedges. Updated sole grinds and groove geometry further enhance turf interaction and spin performance across a wide range of playing conditions. One of the standout additions to the SM11 lineup is the new low bounce K grind, which pairs the forgiveness of a wide sole with improved versatility from firmer turf and tighter lies. This option provides a unique blend of consistency and playability for golfers seeking confidence around the greens. If you have not updated your wedges recently, consider the SM11 wedges. Research shows after 75 rounds groove wear begins to affect spin performance, making wedge condition an important part of scoring consistency. In putting, the latest Scotty Cameron Phantom models continue to expand on the modern mallet lineup, offering improved multi-material construction and refined alignment features. Multiple head shapes and neck options provide fitting flexibility for different stroke types and visual preferences. Additionally, Scotty Cameron now offers low-torque models that resist rotation to help minimize torque in the stroke and keep the face more square through impact.

Currently, we are seeing snow accumulation across the landscape that has not been a part of a normal winter for more than seven years. Prior to this, we took advantage of cold and frozen ground conditions to spade and transplant trees, apply compost to the South roughs, and continue our bunker rehab process. With the snow cover, we have begun in earnest the annual winter refurbishment of course equipment, such as tee markers, ball washers, trash cans and benches. Each winter season, these amenities are sanded with various degrees of grit paper to remove the sun-bleach paint from the prior season. Once completed, we will either paint or stain the item to be ready for the coming season. The last several winters have been kind and we have been able to continue outside work almost daily, but towards the end of the winter season, we are scrambling to refurbish the course amenities. For the foreseeable future, it appears we will have the ability to get ahead with this task. Ground’s MESSAGE
