MATERIALS FOR THE BRAVE Now sought-after by some of the area’s most prestigious builders and designers, 5280 Stone has distinguished itself as a go-to resource for high-end, luxury projects demanding superlative materials and expertise. In addition to seeking out the firm’s exceptional granite, marble, quartz, travertine, sandstone, and limestone countertops, in-the-know designers and builders look to Gray for his insight and collaboration in curating truly out-of-the-ordinary interiors. One of the few fabricators in the area working with semiprecious materials, Gray delights in 5280 Stone’s showstopping potential. From a signature wall of backlit agate to the iridescent allure of a kitchen swathed in quartzite, each is a one-of-a-kind architectural expression. Petrified wood, onyx, mica, and labradorite also feature prominently in the 5280 Stone portfolio. The firm is unique in its dedication to sourcing sustainable materials, meaning green- focused clients will have a guilt-free design experience. “We have a passion for doing really unique things,” Gray says. “When other fabricators say ‘no,’ we figure out a way to do it. We’ve been blessed to be a part of some truly unique projects over the years. We want to make this process very simple for our customers. Picking the right stone, working with the right company, and getting everything scheduled and installed can be very complicated and frustrating. Our homeowners and builders are our top priority, and we want this to be as easy for them as possible.” With new showrooms opening around Colorado, those blessings seem poised to multiply—good fortune Gray is committed to continuing to share. “We care about our clients, and we care about our community,” Gray says. “What do you need? How can we help? Our driving spirit is to always exceed expectations and make life better for everyone we meet.” CLOCKWISE FROM TOP: While much of this bathroom is covered in rich, dark hues, a Caesarstone Pure White quartz countertop beautifully reflects the lighting, creating a bright atmosphere. T here is something uniquely poetic about Kevin Gray’s journey to owning one of Colorado’s most respected and successful stone fabrication companies. His path to founding 5280 Stone more than a decade ago was far from linear, with setbacks and challenges, obstacles to overcome, and no small amount of perseverance and divine intervention setting his course early on. Much like how wind and rain form the stones that make up the stunning surfaces he creates, the pressures of life have yielded an indelible beauty in 5280 Stone—a company born of and polished to perfection by life’s strongest storms. “Like so many people, we were hit hard by the economic downturn in 2008,” Gray recalls. “We lost everything, including the custom home-building company I’d started a few years prior. We fought our way back and founded 5280 Stone in 2012. Many people stepped up to help us get back on our feet during those tough years, and it still resonates with me today. As a company, we make a point of paying it forward and helping people whenever we can. As we’ve grown more successful, we’re able to do more and more.”

A spirit of “agape,” the highest form of Christian love and caring toward others, has fueled Gray and the company from the beginning. Gray focused his sights on giving back to his community while crafting the highest quality countertops and surfaces available on the market—a return to his love for stone he developed during his earliest days in the industry. With a degree in construction management and an enduring passion for architecture, his expertise has steered the company into an enviable position as one of the most accomplished fabricators in the region. “Starting out, I worked for and learned from some of the industry’s best builders,” Gray explains. “My understanding of architecture was shaped by watching them construct truly amazing homes. What stood out to me was how much stone elevates a space. Our focus at 5280 is to bring that understanding to every project we do.”

ZERO DEGREES OF SEPARATION company kd llc welcomes clients into a network of strong connections between in-house and off-site design professionals, illuminating and enhancing the journey to their dream home EXCELLENCE IN DESIGN | DENVER METRO I f you ask Kristi Dinner, the biggest indicator
of success when creating a functional and beautiful home is a designer-client connection that fosters comfort and trust. “Relationships are at the heart of our business,” says Dinner, founding principal designer of company kd llc. “We demystify the design process and make it fun.” From new construction and renovations to redecorating and project management, Dinner and her team listen closely to clients’ needs while incorporating their own expertise— broadened and elevated by international travel. The resulting home is refined and reflective of the client, a logical conclusion to the preplanned process yet surprising in its imaginative execution. “We want to blow clients away with their completed home,” says Dinner. Dinner has been building relationships with off-site professionals, such as architects and vendors, since founding company kd in 1994. Understanding their lingo and approaches, she can pull from these connections to streamline the design process and source premier materials and furnishings, often leading to repeat projects. When a previous client had entered a new stage of life—their young children were now grown—they approached Dinner about designing an escape near Keystone Mountain. From the initial selection of materials to the final furnishing, company kd guided the family to a warm and welcoming home that would withstand generations of family gatherings. For a project of this scale, connections were crucial. “My employees are my partners; their input is invaluable,” says Dinner. “I couldn’t do this alone. I treasure nothing more than the relationships I’ve built over the years.” CLOCKWISE FROM TOP: The stone-and-wood exterior of this Keystone Mountain vacation home echoes the surrounding environment. From the fireplace to the furnishings, the living room’s atmosphere is concurrently cozy and elevated. The headboard, wallpaper, and pillows add dimension to the primary bedroom. Repeated colors, textures, and patterns create a cohesive bedroom. Kristi Dinner, founding principal designer of company kd llc.
