Kat shares, “I’ve found that when I write a new song, come up with a new lyric, a new concept for a song, or perform for an audience in any setting, I have this cathartic and exciting feeling that makes me grateful and feel blessed that I am able to write songs, perform for people and play instruments in a way that not only allows me to express my emotions but also reaches people and
Kat Grace by Peri Hayes LOCAL MUSICIAN PROFILE
Local musician, Kat Grace, eloquently introduces herself: “Music has been a big part of my life since I was a little girl — through my involvement in choir, guitar and piano lessons, music theory lessons, music clubs at school, school band, etc. — which inspires my ability to compose music and write lyrics. As well, another big inspiration has been the endless support and encouragement that my parents have given me since I was a child. They have always encouraged me to never give up on my dreams and aspirations, and always persevere when things seem difficult. They are the reason that I am able to partake in my music lessons and improve the quality of my songs because they provide feedback that makes my music better -- which I will always be grateful for.” Depending on the length of her set, Kat enjoys presenting a mixture of covers and originals. “Since I was 10 years old,” she continues, “I have written the majority of my songs in the acoustic pop genre, which is typically the genre that I will choose in songs that I will cover so that they work well and sound good with my originals. At the moment, the songs I am writing are in the mainstream pop genre, and this is because I want to experiment with a newer, trendy aspect that will help me reinvent my sound.” Kat is a dedicated musician, having played guitar since she was six and piano since she was seven. Clarinet is a newer instrument on Kat’s resume, which she began exploring two years ago with her school band.
helps them feel like they can relate to the music and feel heard.” A musical ambition of Kat’s is to study her craft in university, as she works toward her goal of becoming a music producer. Kat connected with the community this past summer through her show at the Railway City Music and Arts Festival, as well as at From The Vines. She also toured internationally with the Amabile Choirs of London, Canada, exhibiting her talent in Scotland and Ireland.
