his high school career when Griffin debuted as a performer. He candidly shares, “I knew that I had to start singing. I am inspired by R&B and blues, with John Mayer being a big influence. There’s a lot of country music in St. Thomas, and I also learned to love this genre.” Railway City Brewery is notably the first venue where Griffin accompanied his ls. “This led me down a rabbit hole of opportunities.”

Griffin Noriega-Rivas, flourishing musical artist, discusses his extensive involvement with various bands in the local and surrounding area -- all of which are available for booking. In addition to building his name as a multifaceted solo act, Griffin participates as a band member in The Peaks; with Jude Leynes as their drummer and Andrew Guerin, their bassist. In Midnight Rendezvous, with appearances in Toronto, Jude doubles as this band’s drummer while Nash Crowther performs on bass. Moreover, Griffin plays guitar in London for Omri Kash and the Elastic Band. He describes the following: “Midnight Rendezvous and The Peaks are like brother and sister a little bit, with soul, blues and funk. Omri Kash’s music is pop, funk and soul.” Meanwhile, Griffin has been delving into country music. This busy bee is confident about his musical pursuit. Griffin began playing guitar at the age of ten, which has been a passion of his for twelve years and counting. He was introduced to the instrument through self-teaching, later seeking an instructor to further evolve his skill set. “I am very grateful because it led me to a university,” Griffin expresses. During his time studying in the Integrated Musical Arts Program at Laurier University, Griffin has been enjoying his exploration of jazz music and the abundant opportunities to form meaningful connections with like-minded artists. Griffin looks forward to graduating this year, with what has been a rewarding experience added to his resume. “I’ve always loved guitar. I started playing because my brother played, and I never stopped. He is the reason.” It was during Love Live Music?

This musician strives to challenge himself, his current motivation being how to further integrate his original folk music into his performances. While reminiscing, Griffin asks, “What did your parents listen to? You make your own style with all of these influences. The personal flavour and what you attach yourself to within music should come out. I am finding my sound.” Furthermore, Griffin takes great pleasure in teaching. He currently offers lessons at the local Studio Arts Music Academy and Rock School, voicing, “I find it very fulfilling. I might teach in the future at a higher division.” Upcoming events for Griffin include his independent performance at Kettle Creek Golf & Country Club on September 13th. Additionally, he will continue dedicating time to the Horton Farmers’ Market on Wednesdays.
