The County of Elgin borders 120 KM of the north shore of Lake Erie. It is composed of seven Townships, with St. Thomas being the County Seat. Over the next few issues, I will feature postcards of various Towns and Villages in the County.
The Town of Aylmer, known initially as Troy, is situated east of St. Thomas and is the centre of Malahide Township. Avon is a small hamlet in northeastern Elgin County. It borders Middlesex and Oxford Counties. Belmont is an old but still growing village northeast of St. Thomas. On its north side, it borders the City of London and Middlesex County. Corinth is almost a ghost town today, located in the north end of Bayham Township, just west of Tillsonburg. At one time it was home to two large general stores, both long gone.
