100 Years of Lions’ Pride: Honouring 150 Distinguished South Alumni by Connie Weir 150 profiles of South Collegiate alumni were created for display at the South Collegiate Alumni Association’s 100th Reunion in May 2023. Dr. Matin Lyle Robinson (1944) was one. Dr. Martin Lyle Robinson Dedicated physician, surgeon and professor of medicine • BA & MD at Western, after which he received a scholarship to study with Sir John Stallworthy at the Radcliffe Infirmary in Oxford, UK • Many other professional qualifications followed as he trained in Obstetrics & Gynaecology: FRCSC, F RCOG (UK), FACOG, FACS • His sense of duty as a medical practitioner was expressed in the 30 years he spent during his retirement training young doctors in Saudi Arabia, Sudan and Yemen • The first Canadian physician to be invited to Yemen, he worked to establish a modern medical program • As Team Leader of the Canadian Medical Delegation, he made 23 trips to Yemen • Recognized in 1994, along with his wife Ann, by the Order of St. Lazarus for their contribution to Yemen’s leprosy program • Finished Yemen Revealed, a memoir recounting this period of his life just a week before he died • The father of four daughters, he was an advocate for the education of women in medicine and for the equality of women in all countries • A polymath who was also passionate about music, theatre, art, and lively debate • First and foremost, he was a dedicated physician and surgeon who was loved by his patients and even continued to teach medical residents from his hospital bed in his final weeks of life • Dr. Martin Lyle Robinson passed away October 14, 2014. dcliffe Infirmary in Oxford, UK ns followed as he trained in SC, F RCOG (UK), FACOG, FACS ROBINSON (1944) & PROFESSOR OF MEDICINE e received a scholarship to study
