Your Greatest Asset AS WE AGE, MAINTAINING OUR HEALTH TAKES PRIORITY
When it comes to everything you’ve worked hard to build — your home, your investments, even your collections — the greatest asset you have is your health. Many of you know that over the past two years, I’ve faced a number of health challenges. Before this, I always felt like my lifestyle kept me in good shape. Living my lifestyle gave me a sense of daily movement and purpose. But now, things have changed. I’m entering a new phase of life, and with it comes the realization that what once was enough … no longer is. Aging doesn’t slow down unless you intentionally work against it. I now have a daily regimen — stretching, yoga, light weight training, walking, and using stairs — supporting balance, flexibility, and strength. We’ve seen many clients who retire, then start new activities, drop weight, and emerge with better physical capabilities on a new path toward their goals in retirement. It’s now my turn to do the same. One of those goals is an adventure I’ve planned for 2026 — hiking through several ancient historical sites, snorkeling, and exploring with energy and excitement. To do that, I need stamina and flexibility. So, now I need to be disciplined. Sometimes, we think that prioritizing ourselves is selfish, but in this case, self-discipline is necessary. If I want to live fully and help others, I have to take care of myself first.
Watching my parents age has been both inspiring and eye-opening. My mom turned 101 this year. She wouldn’t be here without my stepdad, who’s been by her side, caring for her through the last decade. And now, as he begins to decline, the health care system is stepping in to support them both. At a recent visit, my dad proudly showed me the physical exercises he’s doing to stay mobile and independent — simple things like balance training and arm movement. Both have had falls, and their equilibrium isn’t what it used to be, but they’re still doing the work. As the saying goes, “If you don’t use it, you lose it.” I may not live to 101 like my mom, but I’ve set my sights on reaching a strong and vibrant age. I turn 70 next year and am determined to make 70 feel like 55. To do that, I need to match my physical ability to my mental strength. So, I ask you: Where are you now in your life? Are you letting the couch, the remote, or the comfort of an old daily routine define your future abilities? It’s time to look in the mirror and ask: Who do I want to be today and tomorrow? Because if you don’t take action today, tomorrow may not come with the same opportunities. If you look at people who’ve lived long lives worldwide, you’ll find something in common: daily movement. I’ve never seen a centenarian who credits their longevity to binge-watching TV.
So, I hope you’ll join me in taking a fresh look at where you are — and more importantly, where you want to go. It’s never too late to change your path.

SMART STRATEGIES TO SURVIVE THE CAREGIVING YEARS Sandwich Generation Stress
Caring for children and aging parents can be stressful for the generation in the middle, leading to heavy workloads and round-the-clock worries. Nearly 1 in 4 American adults are shouldering those duties as part of the sandwich generation — that is, they have at least one parent over 65 and are raising a child under 18 or supporting an adult child financially, according to Pew Research. These cross-generational responsibilities can easily leave a caregiver feeling swamped and stressed out. However, family-care experts have provided three strategies for navigating this challenging stage of life. SELF-CARE ESSENTIALS Neglecting your own physical and mental health is a mistake, not only for your sake but for ensuring you have the inner resources you need for your family. One social worker told Care.com, “You can’t pour from an empty cup.” If you simply can’t find time for a break to exercise, read, or chill with friends, ask a spouse, another family member, or a friend to take over caregiving duties so you can get
Max Out Your Future
Catch Up on Your Retirement Savings
If your retirement savings aren’t quite where you hoped they would be, you’re not out of time yet. Between raising children, unexpected expenses, and seemingly never-ending bills, it’s easy to fall behind on your retirement savings. But with smart budget moves and wise planning, you can start building the nest egg you work so hard for. SPEND LESS, SAVE MORE Start by examining your spending habits, looking for any areas to cut back on and put into your savings account. A good place to start is subscriptions you may no longer need or costs you could reduce, such as eating out. Once you understand your buying habits, create a budget to compare your income and expenses. A budget can be a road map for achieving your retirement goals, allowing you to adjust and earmark funds for specific dreams. Focus on reducing what you owe by paying off high-interest debts. MAX OUT RETIREMENT ACCOUNTS Take full advantage of your retirement accounts, like your employer’s 401(k) contributions and your Roth IRA. Most companies that offer
401(k)s will match your contributions, so go above the minimum contribution to get the most out of this benefit. Maximizing your 401(k) is an excellent way to grow your nest egg while working toward retirement. You can also max out your contributions to a Roth IRA, which allows you to withdraw funds tax-free as long as the account has been open for at least five years and you are 59 or older. MAKE MORE, SAVE MORE Suppose your budget is tight every month, or you find saving up for your goals challenging. In that case, it may mean you need to find new opportunities to earn extra income. If you are nearing retirement but don’t have the savings you feel comfortable with, consider working a few additional years to build up your funds. Any time you receive extra money, use it to build up even more savings. You can invest money from bonuses, gifts, or pay raises into an investment account, so it continues to grow. If you have any hobbies or passions, consider turning them into a side hustle.

away. If you need support or space to vent, look for a caregiver support group through a local aging agency, hospital, or senior-care facility.
STREAMLINE TASKS Plan to delegate chores, such as driving the kids to sports practice or taking Mom to a doctor’s appointment. To avoid constantly updating family members on a loved one’s status, set up a group text or shared Google Doc. Family-focused platforms such as Lotsa Helping Hands offer more elaborate information-sharing functions and can be especially useful during crises. NON-NEGOTIABLE NEEDS You may never attain a sense of balance during this life stage. As one caregiver says, sometimes it’s all about putting out fires, and that’s okay! But don’t surrender your own needs entirely! Identify the activities you simply cannot give up without sacrificing your mental health, such as regular exercise, time outdoors, or coffee with friends. Make time for these pursuits by enlisting others to help or paying for professional care. Remember that the difficult, unpredictable labor of family care you provide can make a huge and enduring difference in your loved ones’ quality of life. And that is a purpose well worth pursuing!

Your Guide to the Ultimate End-of-Summer Party Reminder: If you have any changes to your financial situation, please notify us as soon as possible. As summer winds down, there’s still time to host a memorable late-summer gathering that captures the season’s warmth and joy. Here’s how to plan an unforgettable party any guest would enjoy! EMBRACE THE GOLDEN HOUR Schedule your party in the late afternoon so your guests can enjoy the sunset and cooler evening temperatures. Enhance the party vibe with lanterns, string lights, or candles to create a cozy atmosphere as daylight fades. SERVE REFRESHING BEVERAGES Set up a self-serve drink station featuring a variety of options to cater to all guests. Include a signature cocktail, such as a fruit-infused sangria or a sparkling mocktail, citrus-infused water, and sodas and juices. This approach keeps guests hydrated and adds a festive touch.
PICK A SEASONAL MENU Opt for a menu that highlights all things summer. Grilled vegetables, fresh salads, and light proteins like chicken or fish are great choices. For dessert, try a build-your-own ice cream sundae bar or fruit skewers with yogurt dip. FEATURE A CURATED PLAYLIST Music sets the tone for any gathering. Create a playlist that starts with mellow tunes during dinner and transitions to more upbeat tracks as the evening progresses. This progression keeps the energy lively and encourages dancing or sing-alongs — the best way to entertain guests. ARRANGE THEMED DECOR Choose a theme to tie your party together. A tropical luau, garden party, or rustic picnic theme can guide your decorations, attire suggestions, and menu choices. Incorporate elements like
themed tableware, centerpieces, and signage to reinforce the vibe you’re opting for.
CHOOSE ENGAGING ACTIVITIES Plan interactive games or activities to entertain guests. Popular lawn games like cornhole, bocce ball, or a ring toss are crowd-pleasers. Or, you can get creative and set up a photo booth with fun props — those always promise a fun time. Remember, hosting a late-summer party is a great way to celebrate the last few months of the season. With thoughtful planning, your party will be a hit!
