STRAWBERRY SHORTCAKE ICE CREAM BARS

People often think, “Estate planning is not for me, it’s for rich people. Besides, I don’t have anything to leave to anyone else. It’s just another box to check when life slows down.” The truth is, the most common mistakes we see aren’t legal — they’re human. They are mistakes about avoiding the inevitable. People delay making decisions. People are fearful of making the wrong decision. So, guess what happens? No decisions get made at all. The 3 Most Common Mistakes People Make in Estate Planning Are You Covered?

Stir strawberry ice cream in a large bowl until spreadable. Fold in preserves until evenly streaked throughout. 2. Stir vanilla ice cream in a separate large bowl until spreadable. 3. Spoon 1 1/2 tbsp of the strawberry mixture into the bottom of 8 (1/3-cup) popsicle molds. Spoon 1 1/2 tbsp of the vanilla mixture on top of the strawberry mixture into the molds. Repeat, alternating the 2 mixtures, until each mold is full. 4. Place sticks into the popsicles and freeze until solid, 4–6 hours. 5. In a large zip-lock bag, crush sugar cookies with a rolling pin until pieces are rice-size; pour into a shallow dish. 6. Repeat with freeze-dried strawberries and stir the pieces together. 7. Run the ice cream molds under warm water to release popsicles from molds. 8. Coat bars evenly with cookie mixture. 9. Eat immediately or place on a cookie sheet and freeze.

Here are the top three mistakes we see — over and over again:

1. Outdated Plans That Don’t Reflect Today’s Reality A client once brought us a will that was 27 years old. (That is not the oldest will we have ever seen.) In that time, two additional children were born, not to mention a grandchild. One relationship ended,

and the client’s chosen guardian for her children had passed away. This poor woman had no idea how far off course her plan had drifted until we looked at it and started asking questions. 2. Assuming One Person Can Handle Everything

Naming a single executor or trustee is common. But what if that person is gone? What if that person is no longer willing to serve? You need a backup plan. 3. Believing ‘It’s Simple, So I Don’t Need Help.’ I hear this a lot. But behind every “simple” situation is a story. Did you ever see a lawyer standing in front of law books? Those books are filled with stories that start like this: “This never should have happened, but …” or “You are not going to believe what happened in this case, but …” The issues in estate planning are rarely as simple as they seem. Don’t get me wrong: None of these mistakes come from bad intentions. They come from being busy, unsure, or afraid of opening a new door we have never opened before. That’s what we’re here for. We will walk you through that door and answer your questions. We are here to help you take one step at a time toward a plan that feels like peace — not pressure.
