CELEBRATING MY 25TH WEDDING ANNIVERSARY AFTER 26 YEARS MARRIED
This month, I’m writing to you earlier than usual to ensure we’re on schedule. The reason for this early note is that Melanie and I are taking a 10-day vacation to celebrate our 25th wedding anniversary. Yes, you read that right — a vacation! Those who know us well might recall we just celebrated our 26th anniversary. We chose not to celebrate last year due to a whirlwind of events: college graduations for both of our daughters, multiple bridal showers, and finally, a fall wedding. So, since we couldn’t relax and enjoy it, we postponed our silver anniversary celebration until this year. It all makes sense, doesn’t it? As I write this, one eye is glued to my other monitor, watching the live TV feed on the approach of Tropical Depression No. 4, soon to be named Tropical Storm Debby, somewhere in Florida. According to forecasts, this storm is unlikely to become a hurricane, but it will bring plenty of rain and storm surge. The weather folk anticipated an active storm season, and it looks like they were right. Please ensure you have a plan, purchase your storm supplies, and keep your flood insurance active. Speaking of flood insurance, I recently spoke with a good friend, who is also in the insurance business, about his agency’s experience with the recent floods in Iowa. His small town had over 515 claims, but only 10 had flood insurance. He shared that they had some very tough conversations with many clients who weren’t covered and had lost everything. Interestingly, his insurance companies have already paid out over $3.2 million in claims, with numbers still rising. You might wonder how claims were paid if they didn’t have flood insurance. Some had sewer and water backup

coverage, which helped. This is a stark reminder to get your flood insurance coverage now. Another hot topic this summer is the Tampa Bay Rays. They’ve been in the news more than the Olympics lately, for good and bad reasons. On the positive side, the City of St. Petersburg and Pinellas County have approved funding for a new stadium for the Rays. On the downside, the Rays traded several key players just before the trade deadline — a real blow after the community invested millions in a new stadium. One has to wonder what the politicians are thinking now. Only time will tell … Until next month,

FIXED ANNUITIES COULD BE THE SAFE, TAX-DEFERRED GROWTH OPTION YOU NEED Fixed annuities offer a secure way to grow your savings through a contract with an insurance company. In exchange for one or more premium payments, you receive a guaranteed income stream during retirement and a death benefit for your beneficiaries. One advantage that fixed annuities offer your earnings is to grow tax-deferred. This means more of your money can accumulate without being reduced by taxes until you start receiving payments. However, it should be noted that once you begin drawing income, the withdrawals are subject to income tax. For those in higher tax brackets or who have maxed out contributions to other retirement accounts, fixed annuities can be an appealing option for continuing to save with tax advantages. They are simple and flexible, offering the choice of receiving either a lump sum or periodic payments, which can last for a set period of time or even for life.
Score Big With Kid- Friendly Tailgates Football season is underway, and many Americans will start spending their Saturdays and Sundays tailgating in stadium parking lots. It doesn’t matter if you’re going to an NFL or college game; tailgating is a great way to spend time with your friends and family before the big game. While many tailgates consist of adult activities like drinking alcohol and blasting loud music, many prefer to make it a family affair. If you plan to have kids at your tailgate, you need to ensure they have everything they need to have fun. Here are a few ways you can help your kids make the most of their day at the tailgate! BRING KID-FRIENDLY SNACKS AND DRINKS. The average tailgate lasts a few hours, and most people enjoy at least one meal during that time frame. While most tailgate foods are simple appetizers and easy-to-make dishes, ask your kids or any kids attending if they want anything specific. Fill one of your coolers with sliced fruit and juice boxes to ensure your kids have a healthy food option and child-friendly drinks. PLAN A FEW DIFFERENT ACTIVITIES. Your kids will get bored if there’s nothing to do at the tailgate besides listening to pregame coverage and talking to others. Invest in cornhole boards or other games, and see if someone in your group is comfortable with face painting. It doesn’t have to be extensive, but having a few kid-friendly activities prepared will keep boredom at bay. ENCOURAGE YOUR KIDS TO SHOW SUPPORT FOR THEIR TEAM. Whether you’re a fan of the home or away team, you and your kids should wear the right colors to show your support. Let your kids pick out a shirt, jersey, hat, or other team-affiliated apparel to help them get involved. Finally, don’t forget about your child’s need for a nap. Be sure to bring pillows and a blanket for them, and set up a comfortable spot for them to rest when needed. Doing so will allow everyone to enjoy the upcoming game to the fullest.

You can start receiving payments as soon as 30 days after purchasing the annuity or delay them until later, typically around your retirement. It’s important to note that the longer you allow the annuity to grow, the greater the accumulated earnings will be. Unlike other investment options, fixed annuities are unaffected by market fluctuations. Your funds grow at a set interest rate, ensuring stability and predictable growth. If you’re considering whether a fixed annuity fits your financial plan, feel free to contact us for guidance! Vermost Insurance Agency offers free, comparative quotes on fixed annuities from multiple insurance carriers for a competitive rate on coverage that matches your needs.
