H ello , M onsoon S eason ! The end of summer is finally in sight, but we still must get through August, the hottest month of monsoon season. Our family had a relaxing vacation and family reunion in Sand Diego this past month, but now our attention is turning to the preparation of the coming months.

The kids will be starting a new school at the beginning of this month. This will be one of many 1st time experiences for them. They are pretty nervous about meeting new friends and trying out for sports, including their favorites volleyball and basketball. However they are very excited about shopping for new clothes and getting to express their style and individuality. summer! Callie Rae Kline was born on June 28 at 5:16 a.m. She weighed 7 pounds 14 ounces and was 20.5 inches tall. Kacey is spending the summer at home with her family and new baby, and will be returning to work at Vital Care sometime in September. She is enjoying her family time, but is excited to get back to work.

The summer months in the clinic tend to be slower as the temperatures rise. This is the time when vacations are taken and preparations are made for our busy fall and winter seasons. I am busy getting my administration responsibilities in order and getting caught up on paperwork. I look forward to seeing our returning patients and meeting all of our new patients, as well. In other exciting news, I am so happy to announce that our physical therapy assistant at Vital Care, Kacey, had her baby this

circle around the parking lot at least twice before settling on a spot. Another 24 percent of drivers are “stalkers.” These drivers follow people carrying bags or pushing carts toward their own cars. Stalkers can be particularly troublesome for other drivers who only care about getting in and out. They are notorious for pulling near their target spot and waiting. This can cause traffic jams and hamper the parking process for others. resounding no , according to the Southeastern Psychological Association. Drivers defined as vultures or stalkers “spend significantly more time on the lot” compared to virtually all other drivers. If you value your time, parking in the first available spot you see will get you in and out faster than parking anywhere else. Are parking tactics like this really worth it? If you value your time, the answer is a

Foot traffic dominates the area around a store entrance. During peak hours (and peak shopping days), you may spend more time waiting for people to filter in and out of the store than it would take to park farther away and walk into the store. Areas near store entrances are routinely congested, and when drivers compete for those “best” spots, traffic jams are guaranteed.

We are all guilty of circling the parking lot at least once in search of the perfect parking spot. There are spots we consider more valuable than others — spots where we desperately want to leave our vehicles. For some people, the prime spots are nearest the store entrance. For others, the best spots are under trees or spots that give you optimal door-opening space. All of these perfect spots have one thing in common: They offer convenience, a convenience many drivers are willing to fight for. Let’s look at the parking spots near and around the entrance of the store. In an ideal world, parking in these spots ensures you get in and out quickly. But we don’t live in an ideal world. In reality, the spots closest to the store entrance are often the least convenient spots in the entire parking lot and almost never worth the hassle or aggravation. But is it worth it?

When it comes to scoping out the best

PHYSICAL THERAPY CAN PROVIDE RELIEF! P ain in the P lantar F ascia

RIME SPOT ISN’T WORTH IT

Patients suffering from plantar fasciitis know how excruciating those first steps in the morning can be. Plantar fasciitis is a foot condition where the supporting arch of the foot (plantar fascia), which is made up of a thick band of tissue connecting the heel to the ball of the foot, becomes inflamed or tears. Most patients feel pain in the heel or along the arch and ball of the foot. Plantar fasciitis is very common, as it occurs in as many as 2 million Americans per year! Factors that contribute to the development of plantar fasciitis include age, activities that involve prolonged standing, rapid increase in length or levels of activity, decreased calf muscle flexibility, increased body weight, or tendency to pronate. The onset of symptoms of plantar fasciitis typically occur with a sudden increase in activity. You might feel a stabbing pain on the underside of your heel and a sensation of tightness or tenderness along your arch. People with plantar fasciitis may also experience pain in the morning when stepping out of bed, with prolonged standing, after an intense weight-bearing activity like running, when climbing stairs, or when walking barefoot. After your physical therapist evaluates your health and activity history, they may massage and press on your heel area, gently stretch the ankle to bend the top of the foot toward the leg, or gently press the toes toward the ankle to reach diagnosis. Your physical therapist will then develop a specialized program to decrease your symptoms. They may prescribe stretching exercises to improve the flexibility of your ankle and the plantar fascia. They also may encourage you to use a night splint to maintain correct ankle and toe positions, select supportive footwear or shoe inserts, apply ice to decrease pain and inflammation, or tape your foot to provide short-term relief. If you are suffering from plantar fasciitis, physical therapy is a straightforward solution. Give us a call today at 623-544-0300 . We can get you back to functioning normally.

This eclipse will be visible across North America, but the path of totality — the area where the moon completely covers the sun — will only fall in the continental U.S., leading this cosmic event to be called the Great American Eclipse. If your already in the United States, a day’s road trip is all you need to grab a front row seat for this rare astronomical occurrence. Need a place to watch the eclipse in the southern U.S.?
