(Interesting questions sent in by radio listeners)
Q. San Leandro, California — “Where in the Bible does it tell about someone being protected by a spider’s web?” A. This is an interesting question and one which we can answer very briefly. The word spider occurs about three times in the Bible and in no place does the Bible tell us about anyone being protected by a spider’s web. There is an account, outside the Bible in litera ture, however. It tells of the protection of one fleeing from an enemy and being protected by a spider’s web. Q. Turlock, California — “Is it true that God w ill prosper financially those who give liberally to religious causes?” A. If our readers will turn to II Cor inthians, chapter 9, verse 6 they will read, “But this I say,. (Paul is speak ing through the Holy Spirit) He which soweth sparingly shall reap also spar ingly; and he which soweth bountiful-, ly shall reap bountifully.” That does not mean just giving liberally without any kind of compulsion. If you will read on in verse 7 you will find these words, “Let each man do according as he hath purposed in his heart; not grudgingly, or of neces sity: for God loveth a cheerful giver.” Someone will say, “But I have never given any way but grudgingly or of necessity. How can you come to do otherwise?” Here is your answer — “And God is able to make all grace abound unto every good work.” I would say that it is true that God would prosper those who give liberally out of a cheerful heart, exercised by God. Because God says that “he that soweth bountifully shall reap also bountifully.” And I believe what God says!
Q, San Francisco, California — “Don’t we have to bear fruit or else we w ill lose' our salvation?” A. Now remember, we are not saved by grace and then kept by works. No, we are saved by grace and we’re kept by the grace of God. But we ought to keep in mind that we should be bear ing fruit. We read in Galatians 5:22 that “. . . the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, longsuffering, gentleness, etc.” such is the fruit of the Spirit which we ought to be bearing. If we are out of fellowship with the Lord, we are still Christians but un fortunately we will not be bearing fruit. Q. Bakersfield, California — “Are the Holy Ghost and the Holy Spirit two Spirits, or are they the same Spirit?” A. The Holy Ghost is simply the old rendering of whom we now speak of as the Holy Spirit. They are not two Spirits. Q. Ashland, Oregon — “Does Genesis 1:29 prove that flesh was not 'eaten until after the flood? A. Well, if you will notice Genesis 1:29 mentions .only herbs, trees and fertile trees yielding seed, and that which puts it beyond any doubt is the word in Genesis 9:3 that after the flood God tell Noah, “Every moving thing (which is not, of course, the fruit of the tree or herbs but an animal), shall be food for you; as the green herb have I given all.” Now the green herb was given in Genesis 1:29, so I would say that the (continued on next page) 25
