Ryan J. Mullin, PTA, BS

Every new year, most of us celebrate the new year with a New Year’s Eve dinner party or ringing in the new year at midnight. Instead my 2 boys and I hurry to bed so we can wake up early, donn our satin New Year’s Day suits and golden slippers for thePhiladelphia Mummers parade. There is nothing like the cold New Years’ morning air, (and this year was very cold) the sights and sounds of string bands warming up their instruments and Brass bands followed by hundreds of umbrella wielding strutters appear around every corner. Then, the big show in front of city hall where the colors of the club shine in theTV spotlights and everyone is strutting to themusic. After the first year when I brought Ryan and Patrick to the parade for the first time, both of my boys (four and seven at the time) looked up and asked me “daddy can we beMummers every year now?” and I smiled knowing that I wanted this to be a tradition that we keep for the rest of our lives. I replied “Definitely, we will beMummers every year!” Wishing you all a Happy and Healthy New Year!
